While I hadn't seen this story in particular, this definitely isn't the first time I've heard about somebody using find my iphone to track down a stolen iphone.

If you set it up right, it's a very useful tool - I have it enabled on both my phone and ipad

Whilst it's sad that we have to be wary of things like this on holiday (especially at a place like Disney), people still make it too easy for these criminals by leaving $1,000+ worth of equipment unattended. It pays to be a bit paranoid with these things and make sure they are in a locker or being minded by someone at all times.

I'm glad the perpetrator got caught but I agree with Martin- it's far too trusting to leave such expensive equipment unattended, along with money and credit cards. I'm VERY paranoid about protecting my belongings and I would never dream of leaving such items underneath a chair at the pool.

Nonetheless, bravo to technology and the CMs.

yes all iphone 4s running iOS 4.3 (i think) can get it free, through mobile me. Hopefully though like Reid says you will never actually have to use it...but didn't you have one stolen last year?

Got it all set up now can't believe I didn't know that about the 4s

And yeah Gem, I had an iPhone 3GS stolen in September. The police had asked if I'd had a mobile me account but unfortunately did not. Just glad for the insurance.

And I couldn't agree more with you both - touch wood we'll never need it!
