Has anyone seen the prices at new rest. In epocot near italy.

Am I the only person who doesn't care where the tomatoes come from or what kind of cheese they use? I just want a pizza that tastes good.

Nah-I'm with you. As long as it's good 'za I'm happy!

I'm a HUGE fan of Neapolitan pizza, and coming from a girl that grew up on NYC thin crust, that's saying a lot. There's one high end Neapolitan pizza place by me that makes individual pies for $15-$20 each, so the Disney prices aren't out of the ordinary for the NY/NJ area. Will these be the best at Via Napoli? I highly doubt it...but it'll be a million times better than the stuff they're selling off as 'pizza' now.

Let's put this in a little perspective, shall we. Pizza sizes are by diameter. Since the area covered by a circle equals pi time the square of the radius, the total size of a pizza increases by the square of changes to the radius.

Typical "pizza restaurant" sizes are 6-8" personal, 10-12" small/medium, 14" large, and 16" extra large. Take-out pizza is pretty much $15 for that extra-large size (for plain cheese).

In terms of area, it's 201 square inches. A 20" pizza, by contrast, is 314 square inches in area, or 56% larger. Proportionally scaling the price gives me about $23.50. And that's "plain". Add 3 toppings and we'd be looking at closer to $28-$30.

Now that's for a generic, chain, take-out or delivery pizza. For a nicer pie at a sit down restaurant, I'd expect to pay more. The OP was talking about a "plain" pizza, but the price range for a basic margherita or the most heavily topped pie in the place is only $2, so it may make more sense to compare to specialty pizzas at $36 rather than "plain" pizzas at $34.

based on that, I fail to see a significantly worse price premium for such a pizza at Via Napoli than I see at other Disney restaurants.

And yes, I'm a geek. I know it and accept it. (Which is what makes me a geek, as opposed to just a nerd.)

All Disney prices are steep, but I was still surprised at these prices. We'll see how much value there is once the restaurant opens.

Wow! My dad would love to see this post. I have listened to this same conversation my whole life as we've had tastings and comparisons with other restaurants since I was a baby. Gotta know the competition, my dad says! He can tell you how much an individual mushroom costs for goodness sakes!

Tiger :)

And, to further the comparisons, a 20" pizza is over 6 times the total surface area of an 8" ("personal") pizza [50 square inches]. That means it is basically intended to feed 6 people (or maybe 4 really hungry people), so look at it in those terms as well.

We have a pizza capital??

I also don't understand your comment about Canadian pizzas being bigger. Pizzas I've seen are generally described in terms of their diameter in inches - an 8 inch pizza is an 8 inch pizza no matter what country is serving it.

Seriously, I'm wondering where the pizza capital is too. Clarification, please? I'm just genuinely curious!

Nope, you're not alone. I definitely don't need fancy ingredients!
