Has anyone rented villa/condo off ebay?

There are some good deals to be had, I'm just Leary of dealing with eBay with such a large amount of money. Does anybody have any experience with this?

I do quite regularly and have never (touch wood!) had an issue. I'd go for one who has their own website that you can look at and has previous bookers' reviews or comments.

Are we allowed to recommend villas we've used?

We have done it three times in the past year from three different people. The first time I was SOOO nervous but I really wanted to stay at Wyndham Bonnet Creek and the price was the same as what I would have paid to stay at Windsor Hills using the company we usually rent with. Anyway, it worked out fine. Like I said, have done it twice after that without any problems.

Remember that ebay is just a big classified ad marketplace. You aren't dealing with ebay, you are dealing with a particular seller on ebay. So, people's experiences "with ebay" aren't really going to tell you much, unless they used the same seller.

That said: while there are some deals that do go bad, the majority of them work out just fine. With sufficient due diligence, you should be fine. You can do some research on that seller to see if they have a lot of past transactions that went well and are similar in nature to this one.

We've done it many times as well. One thing to consider is that most of the rentals you see on ebay are done by businesses who have been doing it for years and have lots of feedback for you to see.
