Has anyone read....

I just bought it because you guys made it sound so good (even if you haven't read it). :)

It was the last one in the store. They have been selling out once they go on the shelf. I'm currently reading The Help, but after that I can't wait to dive into The Passage. It sounds right up my alley since I just love The Stand. I think my husband will love this book too. My mom wants to read it after we're done, so this book will be used quite a bit.

Now you make me wanna run out to buy it. :rotfl: I was gonna hold off till August, that way I would get it right before our cruise. Now I think I may just order it online. Only problem is, I have to be good. DO NOT READ BEFORE THE CRUISE!! That is gonna be so hard.

Yes, this is true. There was a section that repeated badly. Couldn't believe my eyes when it happened! I think I ran across one or two typos. I have had this happen before in other books. Apparently, you can't find a good editor these days.

That will drive me crazy. I can handle a misspelled word here or there, but something that major?

Hopefully it is something that has been brought to there attention and they will fix for future printings.

I read it straight through in about three days, staying up until midnight each night! If you liked Stephen King's "The Stand", you'll like this. It starts out with a situation that turns postapocalyptic (sp?) Some reviewers are calling it a zombie/vampire book, but it's really not exactly. I'm NOT into blood and guts, and there isn't much of either. It IS scary in that it's that "end of the world, how will the few survive" type story, but the character development is really good. I don't think this would be considered a spoiler this is a planned trilogy, so don't expect a wrapped up ending. I got to the last page and thought "but then what happens?" Can't wait for the next one!

I had never read Stephen King's "The Stand" until it was mentioned several times on a thread here referring to the best book ever read. I just finished it about a month ago and really liked it.

I would hold off if I were you. Today it was 25% off, but closer to August they might have it closer to 35/40% off. Plus, they might have more on the shelf at that time. Amazon doesn't have it right now and they don't know when they'll get it. Maybe the next printing won't have the error in it.

I didn't care much about the printing boo boo, since I really need a great book to read the rest of the summer. I'm almost done with The Help and needed something.

This would make a great Kindle book since it's so huge... 759 pages.

See, I decided not to Kindle it b/c of its length. Just seemed like a lot of pages. Of course, my Kindle is an app on my iPhone, so much smaller. I felt like I'd be "flipping" pages constantly!

Interesting. I bought it at my local grocery store (Wegman's) that has a book section. It was 30% off publishers price. I didn't see it at Costco or at Borders this weekend.

I did see it online for 40% off, so there are better deals. I just couldn't wait for it to be shipped.

I was bought it for my Kindle and while it's not as good as 'The Stand' IMO, it's pretty good. There were a couple of nights where I had to force myself to put the book down and turn off the light; I'm glad it'll be a trilogy. I paid the $9.99 on my kindle and don't regret it one bit. :thumbsup2

I am reading that people are reporting that there are pages missing and parts that were duplicated. Horrible job editing the book. Misspelled words, repeated sentences and passages, sentences that were cut off. One of them begins at the bottom of page 269 and continues on to page 274.

For those that have read the book, are you finding this to be true? Maybe it was just in the first printing and they have caught it and corrected it. I hope so. I would rather wait so that I can be sure that I get a copy that is correct.

Hmm, I bought the Kindle edition and no problems with this. Loved the book, glad to see there will be more. Now I am rereading "The Stand" in the extended version I didn't know existed. It is a fantastic book, one of King's best and nice and long.

I have read mostly good reviews and my sister recently borrowed the book from a friend and said that it was really good. I'm thinking about buying it from the Kindle store for my iPod Touch.

I got sidetracked with a bunch of books my friend dropped off (The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls was great, as was Little Bee), so I didn't get The Passage yet. Down to 38 on the wait list, but I doubt I'll hold out.

Still appreciating the reviews!

Hopefully they fixed the errors. I broke down and ordered a copy online. It was 50% off with free shipping, so to good to pass up. Now, I just have to hold off on reading it and save it for my cruise next month. Of course I also had to order a couple of other books to read in the meantime. :rotfl:

The Stand is one of my favorites. I love the extended version and wished it had actually been longer.

I got the audio book from the library and had a much shorter wait. It is a really good book but the characters are a little hard to keep straight, or were for me. I love anything vampire and there are a couple different spins on things.

I love, love, love The Stand and this is quite similar in plot. The sequels will be on my waitlist at the library as soon as they come out. ;)

OK, I admit, I had never heard of this book until I read this thread, but I jumped on the bandwagon.

I went on the waitlist at my library on June 29th. I received a call that the book was available to me on July 9th. Because it is a book that is part of a waitlist, we only get to borrow it for 2 weeks.

Imagine my surprise when the librarian takes it off the hold shelf and it is HUGE! SHe chuckled that it will keep me busy for awhile. All 766 pages. Fine print. Well, a week goes by and I have not even opened it. This past weekend, I realized I only had one week left, so I started to read it.

Well, I CAN'T PUT IT DOWN. Holy cow, this is a good book. I haven't even got to any action yet, Cronin has me hooked. It's one of those books that if it is in the car with me, and I am at a red light, I want to grab it and read a few more paragraphs.

I read this book over the 4th of July weekend, since we were up at my father-in-law's house and I had plenty of leisure time. It was a great book! There were a couple of things that bothered my "Spelling/Grammar Nazi" side, but not enough to take away from the book. I loaned it to my boss, and she finished it within a couple of days; she also liked it quite well, but got confused during some parts.

(oh yeah, and since it was new and DH has a Barnes card, I was able to get it for $16, wicked good deal for a hardcover!)

The ending definitely sounds like a teaser for a sequel. I hope so, anyway! ;)

Oh no, not another book to add to my long list of "to read" books! :rotfl:

This one sounds interesting and right up my alley!;)

It sounds similar to the book The Strain By Guilermo Del Torro which was a great book too.

FYI for those avid book readers. There is a great site called goodreads.com which is a place where you can keep a list of books you have read and plan to read. You can read reviews and see the ratings of books by average everyday people. a lot of authors have joined and you can read their posts and see what they are reading. It really is neat and its free so check it out. My user name on their is the same as here and you can add friends and see their lists.

Very cool! Another way to spend hours online....while planning to spend more hours in the reading chair. Good thing DH doesn't really care if the house is clean or dinner is cooked! :lmao:

I just finished reading this on my Kindle last night, and I LOVED it. There were several nights where I just couldn't put it down, and when I finally did, I would spend a long time thinking about the story before falling asleep. It is a haunting story, and I found myself really sympathizing with all the characters. I wasn't upset with the ending (since I knew it was setting up a sequel), other than the fact that I really want to know what happens! I wonder how long before the next one is published? Great book, and I highly recommend it.
