Has anyone read "Under the Dome" by Stephen King?

I read it this June. I really liked it. It's been awhile since I've really liked what King wrote. The ending didn't bother me (although I always thought that "It"'s ending was lame- a spider. PLezz.)

I'm currently reading "The Passage" by Justin Cronin(?). It reminds me alot of "The Stand"- my fav King book.
:cutie:

I found I really got into the scientific side of the whole story which is unusual since I usually hate that stuff. Typical King sub-plots and gore but nothing unbearable for a reader compared to seeing it on the big screen! Plan to read it again sometime even though the ending is weak....

I agree, loved the book but the ending was weird. It is such a small part of the book so don't let it bother you. I think it felt like a quick ending...like he ran out of steam. :confused3

I enjoyed the book for the most part. It's better than anything he has written in awhile. Didn't care for the ending.

that sounds good to me...I am hoping it isn't too graphic or bloody...just don't like that anymore....am I ok there?

Not graphic or bloody at all :lmao: Hello - this is Stephen King! I really liked it, not his best, not his worst (I've read them all).

To say the ending was disappointing is an understatement. I was a little peeved. Why spend 1000 pages to weave this great story and end it with something as stupid as that? I kinda expect more from King.

It was the first SK i ever read and i enjoyed it! Loved the social aspects/ how people reacted... etc.

Pick up "The Stand" - similar but sooo much better. :thumbsup2 Aside from "Dome's" ending, I felt the characters didn't come to life as in so many of SK's previous novels.

Thanks Denise... i read "The Stand" right after UTD ... it was REALLY GOOD!!!

Have you read "The Passage" by Justin Cronin... it is good also... I read it right after The Stand and at one point I thought it was too similar.. but I kept reading... and it was quite interesting....

I am about 100 pages in...interesting but wordy...typical SK. so many characters too...again typical.

I am not "consumed" by it...but will go on. :)

For the most part I enjoyed it. I thought the ending was a bit of a let down. It is a bit graphic in parts, but a good, suspensful book.

I read it in 4 days. Could not put it down.
ITA with this review. Finished mine in 6 days, since work "got in the way" for a couple of those days. Didn't want to put it down. Great character development in typical SK fashion.

I read it. It was good. I love Stephen King and I'd have to say it was one of the better of his more recent works (but I really enjoyed The Cell). It's one of his longer, character-centric stories (which he does so well).

I enjoyed it, too! His latest books have been hit-or-miss with me, and I was impressed with Under The Dome. I'll be re-reading it someday!

The Stand is my favorite King book! I measure all other King books by it, and Under the Dome isn't as good as The Stand (IMHO) but ranks high on the list.

I just bought Lisey's Story (hardcover and looks brand new for $2.50 at Goodwill!) because I've never read it. I'm hoping this'll be a King book I like. I always bring a book to read on the plane and at the pool for WDW, and I'm thinking of bringing this book on our trip next month.

Okay..update....

only 300 pages in...and I usually speed read...but...

just not that into this book. I am finding it a little slow and way too much character development.

does anything happen in this book? and I am not thrilled on the meth/drug lab angle that is taking shape. ok...the golden baseball was blatant....so already thinking about that being connected to the end...and THAT will be disappointing.

so....will check in later...but I am seriously considering not finishing.

I loved it and was disappointed in the ending as well, but the more I thought about it, the more I liked the ending.

And I read mine on my Kindle. I can't imagine trying to curl up with a book that size any longer.

I wanted the book for Christmas, but checked it out of the library first so I could start it and make sure I wanted someone to spend the money on it since with me Stephen King's books are hit or miss. I loved it! Hated to see it come to an end, actually. And I'd love to see it made into a movie/mini series, that would be awesome.
