Has anyone purchased the membership to this board and has it been worthwhile?

So I have been a member since 1998 and have posted here many times in past, years ago. Now, I'm not allowed to post because I have to do the gymnastics of 6 months, 50 posts. Seems silly. Either you have something to offer or you don't. Can someone tell me about the 59.95 membership thing? Is that a one time fee or annual? Has it been worth it to avoid the hassle? Who gets the fee and what does it go for? I thought this was a non-profit forum.
Thanks in advance for your help and understanding.

The fee goes toward offsetting the operational/maintenance costs of the DISBoards. Moderators and Webmasters volunteer their time here. The boards have never been a non profit entity, they are privately operated. The posting requirement and rules were first instituted in 2010, and have had few revisions since then, but we do review them from time to time. The latest change was the addition of the Silver and Platinum levels of memberships. However, again, as we only allow ONE user name to be used on the Rent/Transfer Board, you will need to log in and use your original user name, which should save at least $20 on the Gold level membership. It is an annual fee, there are varying numbers of threads you may post depending upon which membership you decide to purchase. If you meet the posting requirement and you will basically have a free Silver leven membership, allowing up to three Rent/Transfer thread per year. Remember that unless the Platinum or Premium level is purchased, you may not offer an existing reservation to rent more than 30 days prior to check-in date.

Hello! I had to purchase it the very first time I wanted to rent my points out because I didn’t meet the posting minimum. I had been a member like 10? years at that point but didn’t post enough to have a history. Afterwards, I’ve managed to maintain my post count to avoid the fee in the future.

The Rent/Transfer board is offered as a free benefit for those who are active members of the online community and gives them a place to rent out reservations or transfer points when they need it.

But, for those who do not yet meet those metrics, can pay yearly to use it and then work toward becoming an active member If that is what that would like to do.

DVC owners who want to use the DIS Rent/Transfer Board to offer their points for rent must purchase a plan. (prospective customers do not need a plan).

The fee is waived for active members of the DIS Community. That has been defined as 50 posts made in the past 6 months, evenly distributed. This is explained in more detail in the Required Reading thread, which is pinned near the top of the R/T Board.

As mentioned above, the DIS is a private enterprise and not a non-profit.

I have found that access as an owner to Rent out Points on Disboards is more than worth the fee to post. Disboards has one of the best run rental sites on the internet thanks to the great Moderators, and has very few issues with scammers.

I have been an intermittently active poster.

Sometimes when I have rented out points I have needed to pay, sometimes not. It’s worth every penny.
