I read on another thread that you can order over the phone from Albertsons grocery store and then pick it up on your way from the airport. Has anyone ever done this? What do they charge you for it?
We have to do some grocery shopping when we arrive and we really would rather be heading right out to the park!!! We thought if we could just stop and pick it up it would be a real time saver. Thanks for any info!!

I did this about 2 years ago using the Albertson's on Orange Blossom Trail, off the highway coming from the airport. I faxed (if I remember correctly) my order the day before, and when we got to the store, they had it all ready for me at the Customer Service counter. They had the produce, milk, etc. in a refrigerator and the rest sacked up. While I paid, the town car driver loaded all into the car. Simple and quick! I used to have the phone and fax numbers for that particular store, but I lost them. Do you have them? I would love to use the service again, even when renting a car.

Here's the contact info from my last trip (gasp) going on 3 years now!**

Ron @ Albertson's, Orlando
Orange Blossom Trail
Telephone: (407) 857-5666
Fax: (407) 857-0132

I just called him to ask if they could do this (which they did), faxed my order over and then picked it up on the way back from the airport. They were fantastic!

**that's what living in California, fear of flying because of 9/11 and a 2 year old will do for you!

This is an interesting idea. I am wondering how much the charge is for having an order put together and made ready for pick up?

Do you save money over the onsite stores?

Thanks

T.

Yes, this is the same manager that I contacted when I used the service. There was no extra charge, as I recall.

I wasn't charged anything either. I think what they get out of it is the extra business (as evidenced by our conversations here). My guess is they probably send one of the clerks around to "shop" for you when the store has few customers in it. I can hardly wait to go back and enjoy "the world" again! Using all of my points at DLR is a killer.

And, yes, you save a TON of money over the on site stores. The on site stores charge more than your local convenience stores!!!

One other thing we did: we ordered our meat from Omaha steaks. They have great stuff! You can have the order sent to your attention and pick it up upon arrival. They bring the food over for you along with your bags.

We just got back from WDW. Didn't know about this service, but did stop at Albertson's on the way. Our flight landed around 9:30 am, and when we got to the store, it felt like we were the only ones in the store, it was empty.

A few items we didn't get were perishables like milk and butter, we were unsure of the storage at bellservice at BW and bought those after we had our room. (which was many hours after arrival). Now that I think about it, we never asked about it so we still don't know, can they store items like milk for you there?

Albertson's stored our order in a refrigerator (even things that didn't need to be refrigerated) until we picked it up. We didn't have any problems at all with spoilage - everything was fresh and as it should be.

In fact, I feel so confident in their process I do plan to use them again when we return again (when I get over my fear of flying!) Since I have a 2 year old, I'm sure perishables like milk will be ordered in high volume!

Thanks for the info on the Albertsons. I am planning on doing this the day prior and not anything earlier right?

What I am planning on doing is go to our Albertsons here and take a pen and paper and my I will shopping on paper and then fax all the items that we want to the Albertsons in Orlando prior to us leaving. Thank you for recommending this. Great idea.

I am thinking about changing our tickets to come in earlier. If I do change it. At the BCV is there anywhere to store all this stuff (at least the refridgerated) if our room isn't ready upon check in.

Thanks everyone.

Cindy

BCV (and I think all the DVC resorts) will store your perishable items in the fridge if you put them seperate from you non-perishables and tell them when you give your stuff to the bell services. We did this and had no problem.

You can fax your order to them a few days in advance. They won't pack it up until the day of your arrival - at least that's what our experience was with them.

Bear in mind that when they shop for you they grab what's available. Some of the brands/sizes you request may not be available. I only mention that because it's my personal belief that it's better to save your time and just send them a generic list of what you want - unless you have any MUST HAVES where it's that brand or no brand. I know what it's like on the days leading up to a trip - so you might want to save that time for the other things you have on your "to do" list.

Have fun!!!!

Did this on our trip in September - it was great! No extra charge and everything was waiting for us. When we got to the store we went to the customer service desk and she sent a stock person to go get our order out of back room. It was brought out bagged and in a cart and we paid right there - so we didn't even have to wait in the checkout lines. In an out in about 3 minutes. They also reviewed order w/me when I arrived and told me if they had to substitute certain brands etc and asked if that was okay before ringing up. They got me some 2 for 1 sale items for snacks too. Highly recommend and will definately do this again.

Thanks for the replies everyone, now if I can just get it together and make out a list I think we may take advantage of this!
