DD, age 7, woke up at 3 am and threw up(sorry, that sounds disgusting) and hasnt stopped since. She couldnt even keep down water at first but now she is able to. Im worried about dehydration. I gave her one of those freezer pops and she seems to be ok with keeping it down.
Her stomach doesnt hurt anymore but now she has a fever. She is weak and miserable. I am such a natural worrier and its worse when she is sick.
Anybody have this type of illness lately? Does it sound like that Norwalk virus thats going around?

Oh yes, it's been around here for awhile. It's a nasty one that's for sure!

She should be feeling better by tomorrow. If not, call her doctor.
Maybe you could try some childrens tylenol or motrin for the fever tonight.

As far as dehydration, my doctor said to look at the lips. If they are cracked and white, dehydration may be setting in. Encourage the ice pops and then lots of water when she can keep the ice pops down. I hope she's feeling better very soon! :)

I sear by Emitrol, keeps you from throwing up but then again with this stomach bug maybe throwing is better to get it all out of her system. I hope she is feeling better soon.

I myself are just getting over this, the good thing is that it does not last long I had it for about 48 hours.

I found that I could keep down apple juice and crackers. I am sure your daughter will start to feel better with in the next day or so.

As for the ferver I would agree with Lucky4me about the childrens tylenol that is what I use when my dd has a fever.

Most stomach viruses seem to last about 24 hours. If she's keeping water down that's good. Just keep it to liquids until she's feeling better. Both my girls have dehydrated before but they were not keeping water down or sick for an extended time. Watch for dryness in the mouth and eyes. Tell her to let you know when she needs to urinate and keep track, if she's getting enough liquid to urinate she should be okay but dehydration can happen pretty quickly. When one of my DD's has dehydrated due to vomiting she was throwing up almost every 20 minutes, for several hours.

Sometimes it seems like after the fever starts the nausea stops so hopefully that is the case.

If the fever gets high, she becomes very lethargic or continues to vomit give your doctor a call and see if they have some suggestions or want you to take her to the ER. Vomiting with fever will increase the chance of dehydration and that is probably the biggest concern.

I hope she's feeling better soon, it is awful when they are sick.

My DH had it Christmas Day, me and one of my sons had it the next day and the other two sons had it by last Friday. Nasty stuff it was!!!:p

Our whole family got it. DS ended up having to go to the hospital because I was worried about him dehydrating. My advice? When in doubt take them to the hospital, they won't think you are a bad parent, they would rather you bring them in than stay home and the child continue to vomit. They'll check his electrolytes and probably put him on an IV for a couple of hours. No big deal at all, I swear.

I would keep her on a clear liquid diet. Watch for signs of dehydration.... no tears, the inside of the mouth isn't moist, and decreased output. I also would avoid the apple juice it tends to make the other end start up. :( Oh yeah be sure to wash your hands and everything in site, it helps to prevent anyone else from getting it.
I hope she gets better soon.

We all had it in the family but DD. It's last about 24 hrs. Hope she is feeling better.

A few of my daughters friends have had this and I have been feeling lousy all day!!! If I get it, I hope it's over quickly!!!

My 12 y.o. had a little stomach virus way back in October that only lasted for 24 hours. Nobody else in the family got it but him.

I'm walking on egg shells in hopes that the stomach virus that's been going around up North doesn't decide to make an appearance down here right as we're getting ready to leave for WDW!!

My DD who is 27 had it for four days. On the first day she just felt queasy, but the other three, she couldn't even get out of bed without having to run to the bathroom. Finally got over it to have a severe allergic reaction! But she is well now. Hope your little one gets well soon and that no one else gets it!

Give her some children's liquid dramamine or gravol. They also have suppositories if she can't keep anything down.

DH came down with it yesterday afternoon, still is feeling pretty cruddy tonight. No vomiting, but diarrhea, chills and achiness, and headache. He's not tolerating it very well, doesn't like to just lay around but has no ambition to do much of anything else and is very weak. I made him some chicken noodle soup for lunch, and brought chicken rice soup home from work plus a vanilla shake and now he's sleeping so hopefully he's on the mend. I just pray he doesn't share it with me! We are tentatively planning on leaving Tuesday for vacation and I don't want to be sick for that! I have been washing my hands so much!! Every time I touch anything DH has touched, I go wash my hands!! So, hopefully that will help. I hope your daughter gets better fast, I know it's hard when little ones are sick, hard on the child and hard on mom too!!

DD came down with it on Christmas night, late.
She was sick for about 24 hours, vomiting and diahrea. Nobody else in my house caught it, I'm amazed! I thought for sure we'd all take turns with it. DH heard on the news, "Do lots of hand washing" and that's what we did.

My 5 yo ds came down with this a week ago today.... couldn't keep anything down- even threw up in his sleep! He wasn't 100% until FRIDAY! Dh and I came down with it New Year's Eve.. and it lasted 48 hours for dh and about a day longer for me. It's nasty whatever it is..... dd age 13 didn't get it at all!!

My 5yo DS had it.. one or two many sneezes in my face, I have PINK EYE now !!! First time I ever had it in 39 years!
Amoxocillin seemed to help him through it though...
