Has anyone not gotten their date?

My sales manager, Bill, has never mentioned a lottery. He told me a had a verbal hold on the WP and waitlist for Grand Floridian. How does the lottery work? Why haven't I've heard of it?

You haven't heard of the lottery because no one else wants your date and venues!

This is the best way I can explain how the whole process works:

A lottery is held 12 months out if more than one couple wants the same date, time, and location for their ceremony and/or reception.

Initially, the lottery is based on ceremony time. Although there may be only two couples who want the same time slot at one location, every couple holding a wedding there that day must be entered into the lottery because the couple who lose that coveted time slot will need to be scheduled at their second- or third-choice time.

And even if the couple gets their first-choice ceremony site, there may then be competition for their reception location, so the times could shift again depending on which is more important to them—the ceremony time or the reception location. That's why it's important to consider your priorities, and it’s a good idea to give your Wedding Consultant a few alternative combinations of date, time, and location.

I'm still confused just because our SM said there was a tenative convention and he should hear in a few weeks if they are going forward, then yesterday he said he is waiting to hear back from one couple. I just wish we could confirm times/dates/locations...its nerve racking!!!

I just talked with the wdding consultant today. She said they do the drawings on the weekend, and typically let you know Tuesday. She said they will mail you a tentative hold paper, and the ceremony site is yours. They will tentatively hold the reception site at that point, but not officially until 8 months in case conventions want it.

Ack, so if I end up in the lottery and the date I want on this year is a Tuesday, I have to wait a whole week to see if I get it?

If it turns out that I'm the only person calling on the year in advance day for my choices, do I then find out the next day? Or do they still make you wait a week in case a Wishes bride comes along and wants to spend more money than me?

I'm not entirely sure how that works. The date I wanted of this year was on a Thursday, and I have to wait until Tuesday. Maybe since yours is earlier in the week, you'll know by the end of the week? The coordinator did tell me that once they hold it for you, that's it, even if someone comes along with a guest list of like 300. I really hope they don't do it based on who can pay more - that would be kind of cruddy.

My planner called me today to inform me that she would be out of the office on Monday (Heidi) and that she has already informed another staff member to put my dates and locations in place and she said she would call me Tuesday or Wednesday once she has word that our spaces are confirmed. I am starting to get nervous and I've been fine up until now. I was under the impression that I would know on Monday, but it now seems that I will have to wait until Wednesday possibly! SIGH.

All of you are making me so nervous, hahahaha!! I was never given a day I would know. My SM just said I was on the waitlist. Never told me when I would know if I got it. We put verbal holds on another site just incase. In the case of the WP he just said we had it and we would sign the agreement in Decemeber.

I was told that they do drawings once a week and that is for everything that wants dates that week for the next year!! Also- the cost of your wedding doesn't necessarily matter- ie. If you have a budget around 15000 and another couple is going with 30000 that doesn't matter- It does indeed matter wishes/escape since you can book at different times in advance! We were going to do escape to start with and realized we wanted the pavillion and couldn't book it until 8 months in advance so we just were forced to do wishes!

I just got back to UK from Florida today and i think Monday is Colombus day so that may be why you have to wait til tuesday onwards... good luck, i start making my phone calls next month after 18 months of waiting so i know the waiting game is hard... let us know how you get on.
