Hi guys,

Planning a short trip in October. Me, DW, DD13, DD11, DD8. Staying at POP, and got 2 rooms because there's 5 of us. They say that we have guaranteed connecting rooms because of the young kids, but has anyone ever NOT gotten the connecting rooms? It would be a serious drag if we got there and they had to split us up...

OR, I may be worrying about nothing... Let me know...

bump.... I wondered that too... I would like connecting rooms but I am afraid that they can't guarentee it

Yes, we had the problem during our 2005 trip to Disney and there was not any connecting rooms.

They could not even make it work for later in the trip (we were willing to move at any time to get them). There is a limited inventory of connecting rooms and we were just on the short end of the stick

It was really really bad cause the kids were younger then and ended up having to either keep one parent with one kid, or just double up (which defeated the whole idea of connecting rooms)

This lead to us to book the FW Cabins for our 2006 trip to avoid any issues like that..

we have requested them twice and got them both times. so we have never had an issue

Same situation here....me, dh, dd9, ds7, dd5 and requested connecting rooms. The CM I booked with said not to worry about it, that we will probably get connecting rooms, but they don't ever guarentee them even though it says so on the confirmation. He said they do give preferrence to families with young children, but it's still not set in stone. Somewhere in the fine print of the confirmation letter I got, it does say that they don't guarentee them.

We did not get connecting rooms at the Poly in 2005. We had ajoining rooms, meaning next to each other but no interior door between them.
I agree it was a drag.

1) I have heard many people yell and scream because of no connecting room.
2) They (erroneously) thought they were guaranteed.
3) I was on the receiving end once - I simply turned and walked away.
4) No one swears at me.

We requested connecting rooms for all 3 of our trips and only it got it on the first trip. Sorry.

We have requested them on 3 of our trips and have gotten them each time. We generally go in the off season times, so I dont know if that makes a difference.

We have requested it the last 4 trips and have always gotten them. At AKL and WL, we had bunks in one room - I don't know if that makes a difference. We have requsted again this year. We had connecting not adjoining.

Should I call back, change my reservation, and pay an extra $100 or so a night for a deluxe resort so and my little trip (which is a surprise to the kids) doesn't get ruined by our family having to split up?

You guys don't know the drama that it would create with my daughters if we finally get to go to WDW and we have to split up...

There is a chance (smaller if you go off season) that they will split you up. There is a limited number of connecting rooms so honestly there is no way they can promise you the rooms.

Like I said before and others echo'ed, you run the risk of not getting it. Now we just sucked it up and dealt with it. Honestly the chance is not huge, but for sure it happens.

We did similar by booking the FW Cabins when we went again to avoid this issue. It was worth it to us to be 100% of getting what we wanted

We were able to get connecting rooms the one time we asked for them. They did tell me at CRO that when the kids outnumber the adults they pretty much guarantee connecting rooms. How true is that? I don't know.

We requested them 2 times and got them neither. But that was at deluxe, I bet because of the higher number of rooms it's almost a sure thing at the values.

One of the many reasons I got out of the hotel business, was that too many people felt they were "guaranteed" connecting rooms. It is no fun telling a family of 6 with a 2 and 4 year old that one room is on floor 12 and the other is on floor 10, and that is as good as you can do.

My advice, if you absolutely can not survive without the connecting rooms, book a family suite....

We did not get connecting rooms at the Animal Kingdom Lodge when we asked on two seperate occassions but we did at the Contemporary on several occassions. So, it is up in the air I think.

We added a second room to our reservation last week and I got the confirmation letter on Tuesday. We requested connecting rooms and in our list of requests it says Connecting Rooms Guaranteed for Families. I did mention that my 4yr old daughter would be staying in the second room with my sister but maybe this is something new.

We have requested connecting rooms twice. The first time when we checked in and went to the room we had adjoining rooms. When we went back to the front desk, they could not move us that night but we were moved the next night to connecting. My kids were teenagers so it would not have been the end of the world but it was much easier for breakfast and keeping them from fighting to have connecting rooms. This happened at the ASSp the Saturday before Thanksgiving in 2003. We checked in early in the morning but went to the parks until after 5:00 pm

The next time we went in 2005 we were at POR and when we went to the rooms assigned to us they were not connecting even though we asked the person checking us in to make sure they were. We went back to the desk and they moved us with no problem. That time we checked in on the Friday before Thanksgiving but we arrived early in the morning. We waited in the resort until our rooms were ready. They had plenty of availability to change us. I think the time of day you check in can make a difference. Also if your rooms are not ready, don't wait until late in the day to move stuff to your rooms. If there is a problem, they might be able to change the rooms if you are early enough.

We are going again this year with some family members for a Grand Gathering at Thanksgiving. We will see how close together we are this time.

You should try a family suite at all star music..they are still a value resort and they are cheaper than cabins or deluxe rooms or vacation villas....and have a master bedroom and then two single kids fold out beds and one sleeper sofa in the other room..plus small kitchenette (no fridge rental) and microwave..plus two full bathrooms...affordable and very nice looking..i have one for seven nites in early november and have seen many favorable reviews on this site and others...take a look at them...good luck

I would think your chances at Pop are pretty good-1/2 the rooms are connecting.

I requested and got connecting rooms at ASMo in Aug 05. It was me, DS, friend, her DH, her DS. We didn't get the section we were hoping for but ended up loving the Love Bug section we got.

I requested connecting rooms at POFQ (8/06) with me, DH, DD, DS, DD, friend, her DH. We were not assigned connecting rooms. I told them I didn't know how my DS would react being in a room without connecting door. They said they found us connecting rooms but when we got back from the parks the rooms didn't have any furniture. :scared1: They quickly found us connecting rooms.

I requested connecting rooms at Pop (5/07) with me, friend, her SIL, and 3 nieces. We got adjoining rooms in the 50's, lakeside, top floor that we requested. They could have moved us to connecting rooms in the 90's but we declined.

Should I call back, change my reservation, and pay an extra $100 or so a night for a deluxe resort so and my little trip (which is a surprise to the kids) doesn't get ruined by our family having to split up?

I think you'll need to pay about $200 more per night to get a deluxe that sleeps 5. You can get a room for 5 at POR for less than the cost of 2 value rooms.
