Has anyone made a request about table size?

We are a family of 4 (myself, DH, DD8, and DS4) going on our first family cruise. We will be celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary with this cruise next summer...July 9, 2005 West Coast Cruise. Would like some advice from the experts about having a table for just the 4 of us vs. sitting with other families or couples. I'm trying NOT to micromanage every aspect of this cruise...but I'm an obsessive planner and find it hard not to want to control everything! Do you think I should make a request...and if so, what should I request? Or do you think I should just wait and see what happens (so NOT in my nature!)?

We've done 2 group cruises, and 2 "non-group" cruises. The 2 solo cruises we've gotten great table mates. When it was just dh and I, we were at a table with 2 other couples. Both happened to be older than we were, but we had a great time.

Last month, we took my niece, so I was wondering what they'd do with us, but didn't make any type of request at all. We were at a table for 10 with 2 other 3-person families.

Disney would probably seat you with another family with children approx your kids' ages. How often will they eat with you? I've heard a lot of the kids want to be in the clubs, even at dinner time.

If you want to see what happens, I'll bet you'll either be alone at a table for 4, or with 1 other family. But its up to you, it can't hurt to ask for what you want. However, we enjoy our dinners and meeting other people so I'd NEVER ask for a table alone. That's just us, though!!!

We have cruised with just four of us and had a table for four to ourselves and then last December there were 11 of us and I requested a table for 11 and DCL were happy to oblige.

I would certainly request and tell them it is your anniversary so is a special occasion.

I've called Disney in advance to request a table for 3 and a table for 4 andthe nwhen I board I go to dining changes and check to make sure that we have our own table. It is important to me that we have our own table so I do check as soon as we board.

We are a family of 4 and we were seated with another couple. We are in our late 40's, our kids in their late teens. The couple they seated us with was in their early to mid 30's. It was great! I think we had a lot more fun at dinner than we would have had if it had just been us. We had a family of 4 at the table next to us, and looking back on our pictures, they always looked so bored. We found out on our final night that our tablemates are fellow DISers, so that made it even more special! Hi Danny & Amy!

If you would prefer a table for just the 4 of you call DCl and let them know. I did this for our June cruise, not because we didn't want to socialize with others, but because I have very strong allergies to perfumes and colognes and didn't want to get stuck sitting with people that wear them.

The first time we sailed, there were 6 of us. We did not share the table. The second time we cruised, there were 4 of us. Again, table to ourselves. The next time we cruised, 6 of us, table to ourselves. We never made any special request. I ASSUME that if you are 4 and up, you are more than likely going to have your own table. It really only seems the couples that have to deal with sharing.

This brings up a good question tho....if you are a LARGER group, do you have to request you all be seated together? I would THINK that booking a ressie together, it would be obvious to DCL that you were one party....anyone know?

If you are a large group you need to call DCL and have your reservations "linked". That way they will make sure to seat you together for dinner.

You can ask for a table of 4. On our two cruises our TA requested it and we had no problem.

I have cruised twice on the Magic and both times our requests for table size were granted. If you find that they are not, then speak to your maitre'd the first night and they will be happy to fix it. I had a large group with me in January (60 passengers) and there was only one problem and it was fixed on the 2nd night. The maitre'd really wants to make sure everyone is happy during their meal times. Be sure to let DCL know that it's your anniversary!

last time we cruised (2 years ago) we put the request on our reservation (for a table for 4)....
and that's what we had....we loved being just the 4 of us...

i've put the request in again for this reservation..

Go ahead and make the request. DCL will do everything they can to accomodate you. BUT keep in mind it may not happen. We made a request on our 5/22, but they could not accomodate.

We requested a table for the 5 of us on our 5=1 E. cruise and we did NOT get it. I was quite bummed about it as I sent request after request after request and even stood in line at the dining change table to request but they wouldn't relent and we ended up eating with a family of 3. It was ok but I really would have preferred to eat alone with just my family! The 1 night the other couple went to Palo and it was just us and it was SO much more fun for me. I do NOT like getting sat with people I don't know because I HATE small talk to anyone!

It was ok but I would have preferred to eat alone. This was the only cruise in 15 that we've never had our request to eat alone granted on NCL, RCCL, Carnival, Princess and Celebrity. I was very disappointed.

I'd ask but certainly wouldn't get your hopes up!
