Has anyone here seriously considered moving to Orlando?

DD and I are moving to Windermere in June. Life is short, follow your heart!

We seriously considered it. DH had a job offer, we went down 3 times just to look at neighborhoods and towns but we decided against it and moved to PA instead.

Good luck with your decision, I know it's a tough one.

After going to Give Kids the World in 2003, I seriously considered moving down there. I figured I could work and my mom could volunteer at GKTW--which she would really like to do. Only problem is--mom is still married to DAD and he is a stick in the mud!!! So I considered just moving down there with DS8, but with his medical issues, I need the support of family. So, I'm still here in Illinois, dreaming about the day I can move down there and relish the atmosphere!!

I think about it all the time. Unfortunately, the job market is still in the dumper and I really don't know when it is going to turn around. Oh, how I wish the 80's would come back. It seemed like everyone was making money hand over fist.

I think for us it's only a matter of time. I think we'd rather move and get jobs that aren't at WDW so it would still be an escape during our days off. We have got to get out of the cold, and closer to WDW, even if it's not all the way to Orlando.

I don't think I could live there....I would LOVE to be that close to Disney, but I don't think I could stand the climate. I just want to be rich enough to either go once or twice a year or maybe be able to invest in DVC and go that route!

We are moving to Florida when I retire in two years. Our original thought was to move close to WDW, but are now thinking more SW coast around Port Charlotte.

Ah, beautiful Port Charlotte - home of the newly wed and the nearly dead.

Don't expect much to happen over there, but it is beautiful.

I have always wanted to live in Fl. DH and I tried AZ for a while but it was too far from my family. We are taking a trip in Nov. to check out some FL areas and a little WDW.

Any suggestions on which would be decent area's would be great. We have 2 kids, 1 on the way, so a kid friendly and nice school district would be nice.

Coming from NY I guess any schools will be better.

Thanks

I was layed off last year and am now going through it again with the nes job. Both times I have included Florida in my list of places to look for employment when talking to headhunters. First time didn't work, we will see if this time is any different.

We have considered seriously moving to Florida and are interested in a few developements. The developement I would buy into Would be Bellalago. There is a website for Bellalago it has as many ameneties as a resort. Pool system with water slides and the fountains for the kids. We have seen it in person and it was very beautiful, spanish moss hanging from the trees, truly a beautiful place. However the schools in the area leave much to be desired. The demographics were bad somthing like 48% of students recieved free lunch, so this is located in a poor area. That is the one and only reason we have not done it.
There is another community that my mother is seriously considering I believe it is in Windemere, she visted this in January. They also have a website. The schools seem to be bettter.
I have also heard good things about Cleremont, Florida.

good Luck!::yes::

That is exactly why my family is moving. It took years of planning, but we are almost there. ::yes::

We've been here for a year and a half and have never once regretted our decision to move. We took a bit of a pay cut but it was so worth it. We live in Altamonte Springs so it takes us about 45 minutes to get to WDW (not that i'm complaining). We actually rented our villa when we were still in Michigan, if I could do it over again, I would of moved closer to WDW. It's hard to believe a place this beautiful exists. Palm trees, warm weather.....no snow and WDW, how more perfect can you get! It's a tough decision but if this is where your heart is.....you have to follow it.

I moved down, but had to go through St Pete for 2 years first. That's where the jobs were when I was looking, but then I finally made some connections and found me a good job in Orlando. Life is so much better now, but at least I could still make WDW day trips from St Pete.

Yes, I have thought about moving to the Orlando area and am in the process of doing some discovery as to which towns are nicer than others. I have a young son who is just starting Kindergarten in the fall and hear lots of good things about Orange County school systems. I hear Longwood, Winter Park areas are very nice. That is, I think, northeast of Orlando proper. I live in South Florida now and would welcome the change of scenery.

I guess my user name gives the answer away I love it down here and have not heard of anyone not liking it down here.

My dh came home the other day and told me that Florida Power and Light was hiring a ton of linemen... my dh is an electrician. Don't know why he told me that, he would NEVER leave Maine. I think I would though, I am so sick of Winter. DH says, "It's no place to raise kids though." People here on The Dis seem to be doing just fine!

DBF and I will be moving there some time this year after we get married. It has been my life long dream to live in Orlando :teeth:

We talk about this ALL THE TIME!!! A few years ago, DH was really talking about it, but I think that with young kids, we need our families around (close around). DH talks about retiring and moving to Orlando and getting a job driving the Sassagoula river cruise at POFQ. I guess that would be a lot less stress than teaching high school as he does now!!
