Has anyone here managed to get upgraded

Virgin are so much better than BA for upgrading frequent flyers and that's with their children as well!

I don't have too much experience of Virgin over the last few years, but from personal experience, found BA to be quite generous with upgrades when DH was a gold FF (for many years). Since they introduced World Traveller Plus on BA we have never booked economy so many of our upgrades have been from WTP to Club class, but upgrades included ourselves and our son on one trip and the same again plus his girlfriend another - and we didn't even check in at the same counter and have never asked to be upgraded. Alas, DH is currently a FF with easyJet and so no perks :rotfl:

we have been upgraded several times with a small child. It depends though.. we are a 3 family.. and the configuration in WTP apparently has now changed on the Orlando route, so youa re more likely to be upgraded if you are a 2 or a 4 family... rather than 3 which leaves an odd seat.

My husbands company spends millions with BA every year and he is a Gold club card holder - we know we are first in line for an upgrade should they NEED to upgrade. However, on every time we have been upgraded with a small child (aged between 2 and 5) they have talked to the child directly in the queue, or at the check in desk - almost to see what kind of child he is.

We get upgraded every time without fail when we travel without our son! (but sadly, we dont do that very often!!)

We got upgraded on our return flight with TCD last year from Economy to Sunshine Upper. We have no idea why they picked us, we were a group of 5 adults (well, I was 17.) We were sat in the airport lounge at Sanford and I heard our names over the tannoy, we went to the desk and were upgraded. Needless to say no one complained.

All we could think of was that they were picking people who had the 23hr delay on the outbound flight to be upgraded? Wish we could afford to go up there again, it was great!

Obi - you'll probably appreciate how BA dealt with friends who were upgraded for free to business class because their check-in staff had made a monumental wotsit-up when bumping them off an overbooked flight - it was the least BA could do (won't bore you with the very long story, but suffice to say their treatment of our friends was just downright disgraceful - for 2 days running stuck out in Boston), but obviously they hadn't bothered to tell their business class cabin crew . . . when Charlotte was asked what she'd like from the menu to eat, she asked for the fillet steak; the cabin crew turned to her in a very loud voice and said they didn't have enough and she would only give them to people who had actually paid for the priviledge of sitting in business class. My poor friend was mortified, her husband (at the end of his tether with them by now) nearly had heart failure and the children were hysterical.

Whilst I probably do agree with the cabin crew's feelings (paid many times for PE to be staggered by the attitudes of people getting bumped up for free and moaning about everything), as a representative of that particular airline, you just don't carry on like that :snooty: When we were (very luckily) upgraded from PE to UC on our way over to St Lucia, we were treated like royalty - a full UC service except the number of points on our FC ;) and no limo ;)

Annie,
Its why I avoid BA as much as I can, they are not know as Bloody Awful and B*****d A$4holes for nothing.

It looks like I was really lucky then! It was my first Virgin flight ever and I belonged to no flying clubs etc.

I'll count my chickens LOL

When we flew PE the people sitting in front of us were taken out of their seats and replaced by another family. We didn’t know why or where they were going but we bumped into them on the way out and discovered they’d been moved to UC, obviously PE had been overbooked. Lucky whatsits! That could’ve so nearly been us!
