Hi everyone!
We are flying with Delta for our trip next month. If anyone has flown with them very recently- are they offering any extra drinks or snacks? We are traveling with two little ones and I'm leary about bringing all the things that I had planned on bringing for carry-on. We'll be traveling from California, so it will be a long flight for them. I've only flown once in my life for a very short flight, so I'm not sure what to expect at all.
Before I had planned on plenty of juice, snacks, lollypops (for ears), our DVD player, crayons (will that be ok), paper, and maybe a few small toys. What do you think? I don't want us to be a burden at the security checks, but I also don't want my kids to be bothersome to others during the flight.
I'm not sure if Delta shows movies on the flight...does anyone know? Thank you all so much!

You're ok with everything on your list except juice. Good idea re lollypops - you may want to share that idea with those worried about little ears on flights.

The Delta website may have current movie schedule posted. Usually not kid oriented films, though.

Can't speak for Delta recently, but I've done United LAX - MCO many times. There is usually a drink service every 2 hours or so and you can ask for something in between if required.

Have a good trip!

I have not flown them since this mess started, but the TV stations were interviewing passengers yesterday who were NOT happy that DL had no extra water on board... Maybe that will change.

Bring the DVD player. It's still allowed. Bring the snacks.

Watch the web and see what happens on the juice boxes. I expect that they will at least start letting your bring on stuff they sell in the gate area.

Student Mom,
We're from Los Angeles, California. You should probably determine if your on a Delta flight or a Song flight (their budget carrier). Song makes you pay for all snacks. It's not too expensive and they even have a kid specific snack plate. If you're flying a regular Delta flight they'll have drinks and snacks. And considering you have children, you can ALWAYS ask the flight attendent for another drink. You probably would have to go back to their station to ask. But all airlines try to accomodate to kids. (An unhappy child on a plane can sour the mood of a lot of adults.) I have 2 kids and we usually fly Delta. Delta will have an inflight movie and some TV shows. But there's no guarentee it will be a movie for children. You didn't mention the ages of your kids, but I know that the screens are hard for my 6 year old to see depending on our seats on the flight. So the DVD player is probably a really good choice. If you're flying Song, they have screens in the back of each seat. The movies aren't free, but they usually have a family film available. We usually bring crayons, a coloring book, small party play-dohs (which are out of the question now w/ the new TSA rules), polly pockets (I have daughters), a dvd-player, and a small mp3.player. I usually have lollipops and some sugarfree gum and maybe some sort of other small snack like goldfish in case we end up stuck somewhere with the kids complaining about food.

Interesting! I haven't seen the news, but we flew home on Delta last night and they were wonderfully accomodating. The flight attendant did the regular run of distributing beverages. When she was finished, she returned and asked if we would like refills. About 45 minutes later, she came by with a tray of bottled water and candy mints. This was only a 2 hour and 20 minute flight.

You'd probably be wise to call Delta a few days before your flight; the "allowed" list might be different (in your favor) by then. :confused3
We put our granddaughter (age 7) on a plane this morning, and her Bubble Gum-flavored chapstick had to be put into her checked bag! :rotfl:
Since you're not leaving immediately, try not to stress out about rules that might change by the time you go. :thumbsup2
Good luck.

Bad news, Song is GONE! All flights are on Delta now. You may have a SONG plane, but the snack options are now DL. No food for sale.

I flew Delta from MCO to BOS on the 5th on an ex-Song 757. The service was horrible from the DL FA's. It earned an email to the Platinum desk on how the layer facing customers needs a pep talk and needs to do more than tell you take a left or right to your seats. You get one little snack (choc chip cookie, biscoff cracker, peanuts, or sun crisps) and a drink (soda, water, etc.). Our plane had about 15 free seats out of the 199 available. The FA's had lots of extra soda and snacks, but told everyone that asked that they were done serving and "out" of snacks and drinks after the first pass (which wasn't true given I saw them stow the service carts from my seat and they were very full).

I flew from BDL to MCO on August 6th on another ex-Song 757 with the same rough number of free seats. This FA crew was much better and did allow for more than one selection of snack on the first pass and gave drink refills when asked.

On neither flight did the FA's leave out the snacks and extra waters on the rear and front service areas like JetBlue does after the serving was over so you can help yourself to extras (I flew JB from BOS to Long Beach and back last month and saw this happen both ways). I'd say that you should plan on bringing your own extra snacks for the flight and don't count on Delta. Hopefully by when you fly the drink carry-on restrictions will be eased. Best of Luck!!

Thank you all, very much. You have all been very helpful. I'm really trying to relax, as I'm a little nervous of flying as it is, but I don't want my kids to know that :) .

I will make sure to bring the snacks as well as stuff to keep my little ones occupied. I'm more worried about the younger one as he gets bored a little quicker. I'll just keep listening for any possible changes to the drinks rule.
Hopefully my kids will decide to take a little nap on the plane :teeth:

Oh, I forgot to mention my kids ages. They are 3 and 5.

Studentmom, you are a dream poster, do you know that? :goodvibes

Have a great trip! you may also want to check out Flyertalk.com and visit the Delta forum - the very frequent fliers who post there will be discussing Delta flights. Just a word of caution, there is no pixie dust over there, so you may want to lurk before you post!

Thank you, bavaria! ...and thank you for the link- I didn't even know about those boards. That will be another great way to keep up with some of the latest info. :)
