Has anyone had salmonella?

I had a major stomach problem that lasted for a week before I went to the doctor. I finally went and they found out that I have/had salmonella. My stomach is still bothering me (I've lost 15 pounds) and I was wondering if anyone else had had it and could tell me when I'd feel better.

DH had it, and it lasted about a month.

The bad part is that it was my own fault...I cooked chicken liver and I don't think I cooked it for long enough They told me they could give me antibiotics but they would make me an asymptomatic carrier for longer.

I've had food poisoning, but not Salmonella, yuck!

My DH had it and he felt horrible for at least 3 weeks. The first week was the worst. We first thought it was the flu, but myself and our DD never got sick and he wasn't getting better. He went to the Doctor (which meant he really didn't feel good) and they ran tests. Come to find out a few other people in town were sick too from eating chicken at a popular fried chicken chain. (DD and I hadn't eaten any chicken) Anyway, he was very sick, lost weight, and slept alot. We still haven't gone back to that certain chain to eat chicken again. Every time we drive by I can see him cringe.

Yes I have had Salmanella.That is why to this day I can't eat chicken salald or scallops.Both episodes were over 20 years ago and the idea of eating either one makes me weak in the knees It takes a week or so to feel better.It all depends on how serious the case is.The time with scallops was horrible and took the week or so to get over it.

DS got it when he was one...from disney. The location was confirmed by our health department as 18 other people from the state who tested positive for salmonella were in disney the same week.

Sure hope you fele better soon...it's yucky.

I had salmonella about 15 years ago. I was on a liquid diet for 8 or 9 days. I was feeling better by the end of the liquid diet but it was another 10 days or so before I was back to "normal". My doctor told me I had a fairly mild case. It didn't feel "fairly mild"! It was awful! Hope you're feeling better soon.

P.S. I got mine from a salmon croquette at Luby's. I thought I would never eat another one but after a couple of years I gathered up enough courage to try one again and I've been eating them ever since. I guess I love them too much to do without them rest of my life. LOL!

My brother had it a couple of years ago. He has birds and the suspect was either one of his birds or the food he gives them. He was very sick and it took him about 3 weeks before he felt normal again.
