Has anyone had Hip surgery?

I'm not talking hip replacement, but surgery on the hip. I have a torn tendon
(like a rotator cuff tear, but not in my shoulder, in my hip) and only three
options for treatment. The first option, nitro patches aren't working out --
I'm having migraines and I think they're related to the treatment. The second
option is experimental injections of my own plasma. My insurance won't
cover them and I'm not really comfortable with the lack of research on them.
So, the third option is surgery.

Has anyone had hip surgery? I'm wondering mostly about the recovery. I've
read two to six weeks on crutches and some sources say no stairs, which
would be nearly impossible in my house. (I live in a 3 floor townhome. The 2nd floor is where the kitchen, livingroom and 1/2 bath are, so I could put a bed in the LR. But there are 8 steps to get to that floor.)

Thanks for any help you can give me!

No (except a replacement) but when I had my knee done they had the same rule, no stairs (albeit only for a few days) and I went to my Mom's.

Different surgeons have different rules (as you know I'm sure!) so talk to yours and see what he says.

Good luck!!!

I personally didn't but my mother in law did. And honestly I couldnt believe how fast she recovered...Good luck and just remember the pain only lasts for a short time and in the long run your life will be so much better that you did it and aren't in any more pain....

If you don't mind sharing, what symptoms did you have? I've been having lots of hip pain lately but haven't been to have been putting off going to the doctor. It's getting bad enough now though I'm gonna have to break down and go

The pain started off just the same as it did when I had hip bursitis. Felt like someone was trying to drive a spike into my hip when I walked uphill. Then, it started to feel that way when I stood for awhile. One of the "diagnoses" for hip bursitis is pain when you roll over on that side -- pain so bad that it wakes you up.

Standing, if you feel your hip bone and then walk your fingers back toward your buttocks, it hurts right behind the bone.

There's also a test a doctor can do while you're lying on a table. I failed that, too.

So, physical therapy, heat & cold and a cortisone shot were all tried. Unfortunately, I came back to the doc after six weeks and still failed the hip test and still had no strength in that leg. (after weeks of sweating thru lift 5 to 10 pound ankle weights, etc.) Then, he sent me for the MRI and my new diagnosis.

Hope this helps.

If you can't do stairs it is possible that you will be able to move from the hospital to some kind of respite care facility for a couple weeks until stairs are possible.

When our dog had hip surgery we did a lot of hydro therapy with her and that really helped her recovery. It would be something to look into since it can be 100% non-weight bearing.

Thanks! That does help--sounds exactly like what I have. I roll over in the middle of the night and :scared1:
