I promised a friend I'd do some research for her about a few summer camps in the North East for her daughter. I foud a few, and I was wondering if anyone has had any experiences with them. I'm looking for any feedback, positive or negative. Thanks in advance! :D

These are the top 2 choices:
Camp Tioga in Clarks Summit, PA
Camp Cayuga in the Pocono Mtns.

And the other choices:
Lake Greely in Greeley PA
Camp Lohikan in the Pocono Mtns.

If you know any other good camps aroun PA, NJ, NY, MD area I'd love to check into those also! Thanks

I went to Camp Timber Tops in Greeley, PA and LOVED it! They have both 4 and 8 week programs. Its an all girls camp, but they have an all boys camp next door (lake Owego) and a co-ed camp on the other side (Pine Forest). All are owned by the same family and have been around for decades. In fact, Timber Tops just had thier 40th reunion this past summer!

My sister and I went to Camp Ladore. My mother found out about this camp through the Salvation Army.

Has your friend considered Camp Seafarer (girls) or Camp Sea Gull (boys)? They're in North Carolina, which is further, but having been involved with these camps, I know that they are super! My son has been there for 10 years, beginning as a camper and winding up last summer as the riflery chief. My daughter was at Seafarer for something like 7 years as well.

Multitudes of activities, including sailing, motorboating, etc. Because they're on the confluence of the Neuse River and the Atlantic, they can provide a varied experience. The river is more than a mile wide at the place where the camps are, so there's lots of room for activity. They also take the cabins on a special long cruise to Morehead City where the kids can go deepsea fishing and/or to the beach. Land activities are just as varied, with SeaGull having a golf course and Seafarer an equestrian program.

Best of all, they're run by a very committed, caring group of people. My son had a very scary emergency surgery last summer, and I got to see the real side of the people in charge. I was totally awed by them. From the moment he got sick, he was given incredible support (as was I). I got to see the magic that the kids have told me about all along. In fact, my son is having some corrective followup surgery soon, and the personnel director is planning to come up here to Maryland for the surgery. That's the kind of place it is.....

Sorry to ramble, it's a place that I hold very dear (and I never got to be a camper there!)

Seafarer and Seagull have great reputations! They're owned and operated by the Raleigh NC YMCA.

My kids have attended Camp Tockwogh in Worton, MD (YMCA camp) and Camp Arrowhead in Lewes, DE and have absolutely LOVED both.

My kids did one year at Camp Conrad Weiser in PA. It was pretty nice. My DS was really homesick, and they did a good job with him. But it fills up fast.

They also did Camp Friendship in VA. I was really pleased with the boys program. I mentioned that DS had gotten homesick the previous year, and they watched out for it and worked to be sure that he had a buddy. One of the counselors made a point of telling me how my DS was always willing to jump in and help with the not so fun tasks like picking up litter, etc.

Now the girls program I didn't like at all! DD tends to get very anxious at camps and isn't able to sleep unless she takes a Xanax. I wrote it on her form, and specifically told her counselor when I dropped her off. When I came to get her, the counselor nastily said that she kept all the cabin up at nights because she wouldn't sleep. I asked what time they gave her the medicine and she said "what medicine?" I asked why they didn't call me during the week, she just shrugged. I wrote a letter to the camp complaining and they apologized, but I chose not to send them back even though I really liked the boys program.
