We just got home a few days ago from the world. We didn't realize they would charge our visa the night before checkout, we had planned to use gift cards and cash to pay for our charges. They wouldn't void the transaction only refund it so now we are paying $79 in conversion fees. Has anyone had any luck with Disney or visa refunding the money? It was on our card for a matter or hours. I'm really annoyed that I didn't go pay off the tab the night before check out :( any advice would be much appreciated.

Let me ask you a couple of question to make sure I understand how it shows on your statement.(I work at a bank and there are always questions regarding conversion fees)

Tell me if this is what your seeing. For example (I've round numbers up to make it easy):

Hotel bill is $1000 USD @ 1.05 exchange= billed on statement= $1050 CDN
Refund is $ 1000 USD @ 0.975= credited back on statement= $975.00 cdn
Total difference $75 cdn (well $79 in your case)? Is that what your seeing, if yes, I would call your Visa company and explain what happened at check out and see if they'll correct it. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Now if your seeing something difference, or have done the calculation differently let me know either here or PM me.

It's not giving me any details other than a charge and refund, although it would make sense that its the rates at which they sell and buy the funds. I will give them a call and see what they say.

We had the identical situation happen to us on one of our visits. The difference due to the conversions wasn't as great as yours. When my DH complained to the front desk (this happened the night before check out), they agreed that the charges shouldn't have been placed on our card that early. They gave us a credit of $100 onto our account (we didn't know at that moment what the exact amoun of the difference would be). Of course that was done face to face at the time the problem occured. Hopefully you will get some kind of help by speaking with someone at Visa.

You really need to get Disney to reverse the transaction. Visa buys and sells the currency so they will not do it. It is Two transactions for them...I know this sounds weird but I also work in a bank. If they can void the transaction you negate the fee. One of the reasons I have a US dollar Visa card now is these fees more than make up for the annual fees plus with the points.
