Has anyone gotten sick from the water?

Wow, disneychrista,

It sounds like that put a damper on your fun.

That's what I want to avoid. I want my husband and daughter and me to avoid the prolonged focus on the run for the bathroom and the depleted dehydration that follows.

Is it me, or is this board a little unusual?

I am so happy that I stumbled upon this thread. My youngest son and I used to always get this horrible gastrointestinal problem in Fla. I would burp this horrible suphur taste as well as lower intestinal problems. Actually, after years we figured it came when we drank water in our Disney hotel room. It was brutal and I was on the verge of going to Centra Care(you know the Fla Vet for people) that was how bad it got. Once we switched to bottled it was fine. I have noticed that I can drink it iced out side the Disney area and am fine but usually I do not even chance that. I bring Poland Spring from home.

We must be terribly sensitive, because all of us always end up with some serious "gastrointestinal distress" when we go to Florida. Drinking bottled water doesn't help, as I'm sure much of the food is cooked in water - you can't really get around it. We take lots of Immodium with us - we always need it. I carry it to the parks and everywhere.

I don't believe that Florida water is poor quality, it's just different water in a different place. Actually, it tastes the same to me as water does here.

I'm just remembering something from when I traveled and lived aboard in my 20s that my doctor back then said to me.

When you move -- I think it was 800 miles or 500 miles -- I can't exactly remember the figure he used, the microbes differ and it can initially wreaks havoc with your system.

Maybe what some of us are talking about is normal. I agree it is not the fault of Florida. I'm sure the water is as safe as it is anywhere else in the US, overall...

A couple of years ago I started having stomach problems during a WDW trip and I think I got to visit every bathroom in the place! The real problem is that this continued for a few months (and I also became completely fatigued). I had many medical tests and the doctors seemed very concerned, but they never did figure out what was wrong with me. Thankfully it finally just went away. I don’t know that I got it from the water there – it could have been anything. But just to be safe I do try to avoid drinking their water now and I haven’t had a problem since.

Usually we take some powdered Gatorade to mix and drink each night. This prevents the dehydration and replaces the electrolytes that you might have lost during the day. It helps to keep your body in balance.
