Has Anyone Gone to the MK on a Monday Recently?

Len, I understand that you have more data than my anecdotal evidence, but this particular Monday was a mad house (not that it translates to ALL Mondays being bad). Also, everyone on these boards (myself included) seems to think that Saturday is particularly bad. However, I agree that Fridays are generally good.

and, for everyone who did reply here, did you guys go to the othe parks, MGM, Epcot, AK? If so, how did you find the cowds here regardless of the day you went. We found it a little too empty.

Thanks for the info. Was anything special going on at the MK on August 4? It is a little surprising that a Monday would be that crowded, especially since we'd expect a large number of Disney resort guests to have taken advantage of EE on Sunday.

I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who knows the approximate occupancy level at the Disney resorts last Sunday and Monday. Perhaps the FTP was very successful in getting people into the resorts, and this has caused higher than normal crowds.

Our next trip to the parks will be in December, and we'll be able to gather more data then. In the meantime, if anyone in the Orlando area would like to help collect some data for the Guide, feel free to drop me a line: testa@ncat.edu .

MK was open that day until 11 pm, there were two spectros scheduled, and there was an e-ride night that night. There was nothing special going on of which I was aware.
As an aside, we were staying at Courtyard in DD and asked for late checkout. The front desk said that the hotel was ENTIRELY booked and they could not accomodate us.
It's just possible attendance is going up.

Thanks Len! I have been looking at your interactive tool for the past month or so. On our last trip (Aug. 2001) we used the "Day After Rule" and it worked beautifully. But since then EE has gone and come back and the days have changed. So I think that things may have changed a bit.

I know that you have stated that you do not think that Spectro greatly impacts the attendance at MK. But I think that I must respectully disagree with you on this. From all that I have read in the past 5 and half years on these boards, and from what I have experienced myself, I DO believe that Spectro STRONGLY influences MK attendance - at least at the times of years when it is not presented nightly.

If you read punkin report Aug 4th had 2 Spectros AND an e-night and I have read several people report that crowds were at Holiday levels.

We are leaving on August 15th. If there is anything that I can do to assist your research, let me know.

I could be wrong about Spectro. I once caused my sister's toenails to fall off after underestimating the size of Epcot.

IIRC, Spectro isn't performed nightly during off-peak times. During our next mini-research trip, we'll see what effect it has. I think it's still on the same days, though, so we'll have to adjust for the usual weekday fluctuations. But I'll note it as something to study. Might be good to mention in the Guide, if true.

We just flew back today from a 10 day stay and were at the MK on August 4th. It was extremely crowded and hot - just not fun. A hotel employee told me the next day it was the hottest day on record for the summer, but beyond the heat - the crowds were terrible. You could not move through Tomorrowland, and the Fastpass return line for Buzz was like a normal standby line. People were cutting line, pushing, and fighting in this line! I have no idea why it was so crowded, but it would be interesting to know the numbers for that day.

We had other days at MK (Thursday, 8/7 and 7/31) that were perfectly pleasant except for the humidity - I grew up in Tennessee but now live in Colorado and am not used to that any more!

We left mid-afternoon and returned that evening to use a FP for Splash Mountain (got it at 3pm w/ a return for 7:45 - 8:45) and it was less crowded.

We did AK on Sunday and that was true to the book - seemed like the crowds were moderate. We had most of the main attractions done before noon.

Epcot on Friday was not crowded at all.

Welcome to the DIS and thanks for this very current information Anne!

I plan on trying the MK on Monday the 18th and I am HOPING that some of the summer crowds will have died down a bit and that things will be more manageble.

We MAY try MK on Sat the 16, but Saturdays with Spectro scare me.

We will go to the MK on Wed if we miss Spectro on Mon (rain?). And we may go there on Thursday evening. Hopefully we will hit a time when it is not terrible.

I am not too concerned about the other parks, but I guess only time will tell.

BethR, it looks like we are going at the same time. I have a family of ten (could get ugly!!!!) for this reunion trip of sorts and planning days has been a nightmare.
I too am planning to hit MK to catch Spectro on Monday the 18th. I hope crowds are down a bit.
If we miss it then, what are the chances we could catch it on Weds? We have a PS at Boma for 6:30 that evening. Last time we ate there it took us more than two hours!
Have they decided to add Spectro and FITS to Saturday the 23?

We went on a Monday June 9th and it was extremely crowded. We actally left in the early afternoon and went to Epcot and found it to be very manageable.
