We have gone to Disney in the spring and fall. We are looking at booking 1 week before Christmas. I've read it is beautiful. I would really to hear from anyone that has camped in Dec. What was the weather/crowds like before Christmas. We have a pop-up with a heater so cool nights should be ok.

Thanks!

Marcy

Week before Christmas is wonderful. Decorations are up, parades and shows are in full swing, crowds are much lighter. The fort is also dressed up, pools are heated, temperatures are pleasant. About the only thing to factor in is sometimes the MK closes early for the seperately ticketed Mickey's Christmas Party (or whatever the name is). I would highly recommend it if your schedule allows it.

We are going the week before Christmas (17th - 24th). Can't wait! Have fun planning Marcy!

We have gone for the last 4 years between around the 17-25. It is my favorite time to be there. The crowds arent bad until a couple of days before Christmas.

The weather can be anywhere from pretty cold to pretty warm. It was a little chillier than we expected in 2005 and we ended having to make a trip to Walmart for some extra jeans! :goodvibes

Hi Swimnoid! I'm glad you mentioned the weather and appropriate clothing because I had been thinking about that. If we have jeans, t-shirts and hoodies or sweatshirts to go over them should that be enough? We wouldn't ever need a coat would we? I grew up in Florida so you'd think I would know but I haven't lived there for 26 years so its easy to forget the details! We are used to cold winters now so temps in the 60's would probably seem pretty warm to us. Thanks!

We usually go in December and it can be hit otr miss witht he temperature. I've been is shorts running down to the pool top cool off and i have had a coat on to stay warm.

Here is the historical temperatures for December:

Average High Temperature is 75 F
historical range 55 F to 88 F
Average Low Temperature is 54 F
historical range 32 F to 72 F

As you can see, you have a bvetter chance of it being warm, but cold is a poossibility.

Last year was the coldest it has ever been for when we were there and hoodies were fine but we saw lots of people with ski jackets.. I had packed mostly shorts and only 3 pair of long pants for 10 days hence the need for either laundry or more pants! There were days when the afternoons were fine without a sweatshirt but you really needed one once the sun went down. And of course we HAD to do Splash when I didnt bring my sweatshirt! :rotfl:

when me and my family went we had on jeens jackets sweatshirts and hats and it was still freezing  :cold:

hope this helps

We went two weeks before Christmas last year and are going again this year the week of the 9th to 16th.

It was the most wonderful time I've ever had there. It was really cold though on some of the nights. One night was in the 40's.

The decorations are spectacular and for me the best was MVMCP.

Also stunning was the Candlelight Processional at Epcot.

One December,we left FW to go to the parks;it was high 70's so we had shorts on by afternoon a cold front came through and it was in the 30's. That night it was in the 20's. So it is hit or miss but plan for cold weather.

the decorations at the campground sites are wonderful--Disney has a contest each year for best decorated--best disney theme-----you colud spend three nights just tourng the campground looking at decorations--lol

we'll be there again this year 17-26th

Do they still do the campfires/backyard barbecues/movies/petting zoo/pony rides/all the other stuff in December?

We usually go in December but stay at a resort. This year we have the opportunity to use an RV, if we want, and are trying to decide if we would like to go that route.

FW sounds like it would be wonderfully fun in spring or fall, I wasn't so sure about December.

campfires - Yes, 12 months a year weather permitting (i.e. not raining)

backyard barbecues - While fewer are avialable in winter months, most of the time they have at least one a week

movies - Same as campfire

petting zoo- the petting zoo has been eliminated, as in no longer at FW

pony rides - Yes, 12 months a year weather permitting (i.e. not raining)

We were there this past Christmas for the week before until the day after Christmas and it was the BEST!!! If it was not for the free dining program, we would be going again this Christmas;)
All the decorations that all the campers put up (even on the golf carts) are soo neat to see and really make it special. We loved bringing our own little tree and being able to decorate a bit also!
The weather was just perfect! We would leave in the mornings with a light coat/sweater and have them off my noon and just back on for the evenings. We had 1 day that it rained for only a couple of hours and our kids thought it was great to go swimming on Christmas Day:)
The begining of the week, the crowds were pretty low. But the closer you got to Christmas the heavier the crowds became. Be sure not to miss Mickeys Christmas Party, this made our whole trip and really felt soo much like Christmas with the snow on Main Street, the hot cocoa and cookies and the parade was soo special.
Have fun!!

If DS likes his new private school and continues going there, we hope to go to FW many times the week before Christmas! His holiday vacation there is two weeks, starting the week before Christmas. Most public schools around here only have from Dec 24 to Jan 1.

We also have family in Florida who just don't like NJ in winter and it would be nice to see them.

I'm filing away the info under 2007!!!
