Has anyone ever used Magic Mouthwash?

I had to go back to the doctor today because despite 48 hours on penicillin my fever was getting worse and my tonsils were huge and coated in white patches. The doctor told me to keep taking pcn and prescribed a 1:1:1 of something called Magic Mouthwash. It has visceral lidocaine, maalox and benadryl. Has anyone ever used it? Did it numb your entire mouth? I hate the feeling of not being able to feel my mouth, so I'm trying to hold off until I just can't take the pain anymore.

We had to use it on DS when he had blisters in his mouth. He hated it, but he's 2 and I think it just scared him.

Viscous Lidocaine (just means thick). I personally would just suck on a chloraseptic for the same effect.

My pedi practice often recommends mixing Maalox and Benedryl for children who have blisters in their mouth, things like coxsackie virus (hand, foot, and mouth). Never have personally used it myself, but it is supposed to lessen the discomfort. The addition of lidocaine would definitely have a numbing affect.

I sucked it up and tried it last night. It wasn't so bad as the numbing effect on my mouth was very temporary (less than 5 minutes), but it numbed my throat for a good two hours!

Glad it made you feel better!!!! Totally sucks when you're sick:sick: . Hope you make a full recovery soon.

Can you use Magic Mouthwash with a toddler with hands, foot and mouth virus? Since he cannot swish and spit, can the Mouthwash be applied with a q-tip on his tongue since it is very painful? Is it safe?

Our Pediatrician prescribed this for DD's canker sores. It numbed them for a little while but not very long.

Hope you feel better soon, OP!

Love it! well my DS does - at 12 he got foot a mouth a few weeks back from our loving nephew... he was SOOO sick -they gave him that for all the blisters in his mouth.. we weren't sure about it at first but when he said it acutally helped with the pain in his mouth he was all for it!
we were to use it every 4-6 hours I think he did it about every 3 though he was so sick for over 2 wks.. I even got refills for it.. seems it will help with canker sores too!

they give it to all the littles one who get bad cases of foot/mouth.
