Has anyone ever used E-Tickets for flying?

Flying to New York City next week.

I don't have an actual airline ticket, all I have is a confirmation number.
What do I do when I get to the airport?
Do I go up to the desk?
Do I go to one of those machines? If so, what do I put into the machine?

Thanks for your help :)

What airline are you flying? I recently flew American and all I had to do was step up to the machine and swipe my credit card. The system "found" me and printed my boarding pass at the desk. I checked my luggage and was on my way in less than 10 minutes!

You'll still need your photo id, of course.

I've used them often and never had a problem. You just show up at the desk with the proper ID. I know how difficult this is to do the first time. We are so accustomed to paper confirmation. I did call a day or so ahead to confirm ( just to make myself relax about it ). I also printed off my info and took that with me, but never needed it. Good luck !

I use these all the time, and even do on-line check-in, so I have a boarding pass before even getting to the airport.

I love e-tickets and have used them on Delta, Song and USAir. I usually print out my confirmation slip and have that just in case. Most times it only takes a credit card or FF card to ID you if you use a check-in kiosk. The kiosk (or regular desk) will give you a boarding pass. You will still need a photo ID too when you check-in luggage and for the security check area.

Well, I ISSUE e-tkts... does that count? I'm a ticket agent (not at an airport)! All info given here is exactly right. E-tkts are great! Lower costs for the airline, no lost tickets for the passenger (which cost money to replace). I think you'll be very pleased with the experience. Have a GREAT trip!

Thank you everyone.

I bought the airline tickets on orbitz.com so the only confirmation # that I got is the orbitz confirmation number. Is that the same as an e-ticket or was I supposed to get a separate confirmation # from the airline?

I'm not terribly familiar with Orbitz's ticketing procedures. Somewhere on that confirmation there is probably a ticket number, probably in the same section that shows your intinerary. The ticket number has 13 digits (possibly 14).

Me too, and I've found THE most important piece of travelling "equipment" these days to be my photo ID.

You'd be surprised how many people forget theirs at home!!! I've seen several people turned away at the airport because they didn't carry theirs with them!

Hope you're going on a pleasure trip. :)

Yes, it is a pleasure trip. It is a Ladies/Girls trip - Mothers & Daughters. Two of my sisters and two of my cousins and our daughters. I can hardly wait!

Thanks for all of your help everyone. I didn't know that you could "check in" on-line. I will have to give that a try.
