For a trip next year was thinking of renting an RV in Orlando which I could do for around $1000 for a week staying at Fort Wilderness for about $65 a day for the hookup, has anyone else tried this? I would be driving from Kentucky so I don't want to rent an RV until I get to Orlando. If anyone else has tried this how did it work out and what company did you rent the RV from? And will I have room to park my suv in the same spot as the RV? looking at renting a 30-35 foot RV, and can you drive your own car around the resort grounds without having to rent a golf cart while there? I was not sure about parking around the marina to catch the boat to MK.

Interesting thought. Just curious, for the same money couldn't you get a resort room, or does your family enjoy the RV camping experience?:)

I've seen people discuss taking RVs to FW for the entire winter, but dunno if that's feasible.

I think this thread might be better suited to our Camping board, so I'll move it over there.

not for a family of 5 for what would be considered an MK resort to have access to the boat directly to MK.

You will have room to park your SUV at most full hookup spots, however you cannot have more than that. One RV and one extra vehicle per site.

There is no driving around and parking anywhere in FW, it is discouraged and there are no parking lots anywhere in the campground. You can park at the Meadows Trading Post for 15 minutes, there are a few spots there designated for this purpose. Otherwise you are expected to use internal buses, bicycle, rental golf cart (available from Disney and other vendors(for now)).

Unless you just really have to camp, you can get a hotel for the price of the rental of an RV in this situation. If you can downsize, there is a poster on this board that rents popup campers at a reasonable rate, have seen very good reviews for their service.

The internal bus service is very good for moving around FW and connecting with busses to the other parks. The boat is a convenient way to get to the MK and from there via monorail to EPCOT. The AK and DHS can both be accessed by bus. Depending on where your campsite is, walking to many locations within FW is feasible. I think there is someone who also rents a fiver and sets it up for you. Someone here may be able to give you the link.
