i always stay a week at least.
i start with the motherland resorts for a week and then switch to the darkside resorts.

i have never stayed just only one night at the UO resorts. no way could i do everything in the parks, including the shows, if i only went one full day.

many posters have made comments of booking one night only for the darkside.

for any Universal hotel guest, they get the day they check out the useage of the hotel key card for using the express lines for rides and shows in the parks.

so, there are families that stay one night only onsite and do the parks for two days with the perk of express line useage.

i prefer doing disney first then universal on my stays.

i rush a lot at disney but have more relaxing times at universal.
and i get spoiled by universal hotels.....

This time around we are staying two nights, therefore getting three days of FOTL. We are arriving early on our arrival date. Our plan is to be at the hotel around 8:00 am and go to US that day. We are driving from the beach part of our vacation to Universal. The next day we are going to IOA and use the early entry perk. Our third day is whatever the kids want to do US or IOA. We are checking out of RPR and staying at the Hampton Inn for one night ($56.00 with tax). Checking out at 11 and going to DTD prior to our flight home.

So booking one day I think is good if you are only planning on going to each park one day and you plan on arriving early on you arrival date. Therfore you will get the benefit of two days with FOTL.

Our previous trip we stayed four nights/five days around July 4th. We arrived to the hotel around 11:00 am (Hard Rock) and went to US. With FOTL we were able to go on all the rides we wanted to go on that day. I felt with FOTL four nights/five days was too long for us.

We have only stayed just the one night every time. It works great for us. We do one park per day and get there early both days. With early entry to WWOHP and FOTL, we have never had a problem getting everything we wanted done, including multiple rides on the favorites. The only downside I've found is that it doesn't give you much time to enjoy the hotel amenities, but we mostly view it as a place to sleep.

You will get it all done if you rush. Do one US the first day, then do IOA early entry the second day. If this is your first time at these parks I would suggest a few more days to enjoy it at a slower pace.

We have done a few overnight stays a couple of times, but we know what to expect and what we want to do. We get there normally around 6-7am and spend the whole day at the parks. Then get up the next morning, checkout, put the stuff in the car, then return to the parks until 5-7Pm and then drive home. It makes a long weekend.:thumbsup2

Our ideal time to be there is a week.:thumbsup2

I would say it would definitely be worth it if you have been to the parks before and know what you want to do and can spend a full two days at the resort.

On our spring break trip we had one night booked at the HRH. We actually stayed offsite real close to HRH the night before we went to Universal. Checked into HRH at 6:30 AM and went to IOA for early entry. At about 11:00 AM we went back to HRH for lunch and pool time. Our room was ready about 2:00 PM and we just accessed our luggage in the storage room and used the fitness center for changing. After a nice afternoon at the pool we went to US for awhile and ate at Bubba Gump for dinner and back to US till closing.

The next day we got up early again for early entry, and then over to US for opening to ride Rip Ride Rocket for before the crowds got there. We were back to HRH by 11:00 again and went to our rented cabana. We were able to secure a 1 hour later checkout and we took turns going up to the room to finish packing. The luggage was put into storage, but we were able to bring anything we needed down to the cabana. I highly reccommend getting a cabana at HRH. We had #8 and loved it for my family of 5.

At about 6, we left HRH and headed to dinner at the HRH and then to the parks and rode until almost closing. We walked back to our car in the HRH parking lot and headed back to relatives in the area.

We had a great relaxing time and since we had been to Universal before we didn't feel the need to make sure we rode everything and see every show. Of course, with FOTL you can go on quite a number of rides in a short amount of time. We enjoyed both parks and really had a lot of fun at HRH in the afternoon. There is a great atmosphere there and the kids loved all the activities and games.

We've been staying just one night the last few times, but, we might skip it next trip.

I've found that I'm not saving hardly any time using FOTL. US/IOA seem very empty when we are there, so jumping to the front of 15 people just doesn't seem worth it.

In fact, just last week we were down for just 4 days at WDW. Decided to do US one morning and got there just after opening. Without FOTL, we did HRRP 2x, Mummy 2x MIB 2x and Jaws in less then 3 hours. The waits were maybe 5 minute for HRRR and walk on for Mummy.

Might skip staying on-site next trip, no so much to save any money, but to not have to change hotels just for one night.

So let me make sure I understand this. I can check in early Friday morning...and use the FOTL on Friday. Then check out Saturday and STILL use FOTL for that day as well??? So I can stay one night and use FOTL 2 days??? :confused3

Sorry.....TOTALLY new to all of this and I just need a little clairification. :)

Yes, you get two days of early entry and unlimited express line access with one night's stay.

2 days of free unlimited express lines makes staying on site sweeter and a better deal.

I am new to this board, planning to stay on site for two nights, where would I get the cheapest rate, we are arriving August 20, departing August 22, also I know that answer is probably a easy one, what does FOTL stand for, it is driving me nuts, also do you get express pass automatically for staying at the on site resort, so I can buy my tickets for another source

FOTL stands for Front of the Line ---which actually doesn't exist. What it really is, is unlimited express line access (basically a fast pass that you can use at any time as many times as you like)

You get unlimited express pass access by staying onsite. Your room key is your express access pass.

Cheapest rates come from online. Just go to www.loewshotels.com

For AAA rates you should call them.

all onsite hotel guests can show their hotel room key in order to use the express lines for the rides and shows at the UO parks.

there are a few attractions that do not have express lines though.

when peeps say FOTL, it means, front of the line.

actually this is incorrect.
there are no 'front of the line' passes anywhere.

you don't get FOTL with being a hotel guest but you get to use the express lines for unlimited useage.

you can get discounts on the rooms with UO Annual Passes membership, AAA, employee discounts, military discounts.

that are the ones i am familiar with.

Which rides doesn't it work with?

Here is a full list of rides that do and don't.:thumbsup2
