I'm a poor college student, I'm scraping up money wherever I can find it. I used to play guitar all the time but I just don't play anymore, and it really doesn't bother me that I don't. :confused3 It sucks being a casual lefty guitarist, too, you can't just grab a guitar and go for it....usually it isn't a lefty!

Anyway I'm planning on selling my guitar. It's my second guitar, I've had it for about 7 years, and it really is beautiful. It's a black Ibanez acoustic. I originally bought it for $800, and it can be restrung to be a righty. The only issue it has is at the base of the body there are some scratches just from being used, otherwise I've taken very good care of it and it sounds beautiful.

I'm wondering if anyone has sold a guitar or something similar, and how did you go about it? Craigslist? Ebay? Just word of mouth? I can't find anyone around my campus who is interested right now... any advice would be appreciated! :thumbsup2

My son has sold two (he actually plays a black Ibanez acoustic electric, and it's a very nice guitar). One, a Kurt Cobain Fender, sold for three times what he paid for it -- on ebay. The big drawback was that shipping was HORRENDOUS. I took it to a pack and ship place, and it was nearly $90 to ship.

The second, a Jimmy Vaughn Strat (I think) sold for less than he paid (he bought it on ebay), not by much, though, on Craigslist. That was better -- guy came to our house (which I don't normally do with Craigslist stuff), tried it out, and paid cash.

My son says Ultimate Guitar has a used equipment forum -- you might try that.

Whichever you try, take plenty of pictures and be upfront about any body damage -- scratches, etc. Be realistic about the price you're listing it for.

Guitar Center buys used equipment -- don't know how much you'd get for it there, but might be worth a try. They told my DS what they thought that he could realistically get for it selling it himself, and they were right on (that was the Jimmy Vaughn guitar -- sold for right about what GC said it would).

My son sold a few on eBay. He went to guitar center and asked for some boxs and packed them up seller paid actually shipping cost he did well with them
