i would like references on isla bonita, if anyone has any. have any of you stay at her vacation home. it is beautiful and we would really like to stay there. i have learned on this site that you have to ask as many questions as you can think of and get references from people before booking. i would love your input. :surfweb:

Here is a really great review of "The Bonita"...

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1117850

Having private villa owners here on the Dis is a wonderful thing. :thumbsup2
All of them are really helpful to those of us planning villa vacations.

And I 'll bet that they're really great people to rent from too. I think it might be a fine line for them sometimes, openly participating here, and having villas for rental too. A review can go either way for them, and it would be hard to see something here that is a little less than favourable, about their rental. I know it's tough for them too when a complete stranger/villa owner rents their home, and things go poorly, and the poor renter posts about it.....that villa owner's behaviour reflects on all of them, sadly, which has to be frustrating.

Which is why a really great villa owner does all they can to help you iron out the little things for your vacation...

...and why those really great villa owners are still in business for a long time to come.

It's a business, yes.

But a business that's all about wonderful vacation time - for other people you really don't know....staying in your home!

Phew. That's gotta be a tough one!

Kudos to those who walk that line well:)

I was not sure if I should respond but decided to do just that.

I try to be as honest, accurate, unbiased as possible. As you all know we own in EI. There are so many homes and communities in the area that are all great places to vacation. I only try to give information that can help all. For me I do not find it hard to listen to critism. I am in business. Not every home will suit every vacationer.

We have had our home a little over 2 years and it is a work in progress. We have added every time we head down. It is always a working vacation. This time with the help of the Dis family we are putting together a games room. There will be plenty that our home will not suit.

The review had both good and some points that did not suit the renter. That is how each home will be. There is not perfect. Also it is good to learn from the negative comments.

As an owner I still think that as a renter there are many things you should all know.
total ask for any hidden costs
what do you provide in case of problems
policy contract
refund policy
any questions you have after reading the website thru
any specifics to your group

Ask many questions we are glad to answer all that is our job. Also ask for any better rates. I offer to any one from the Dis a better rate. Also longer stay rates are better no additional clean fees for us as owners. All they can say is no.

You should feel good about your vacation plans and not have a pit in your stomachs. If it does not feel right decline. You need to sleep at night. Many people have rented and have had many great experiences. You do not read many at all of not enjoying the homes. Not that I have read any way. Good luck with what ever you choose. There is a home out there for your group that will be the perfect match.

Last but not least renting a home is not for every one. One good thing is if you did not like it you never have to do it again.

Deb,
Very well put! I agree with you completely, and would also recommend that anyone wanting to rent a home vs a hotel, ask as many questions as you can.
If someone does not want to answer your questions then they must not want to rent thier home too badly.

I know the first time I rented a home I had a wonderful experience with a great homeowner! I loved our trip and wanted to own my own home.
Several years later we were fortunate enough to buy our own home. I have had a great experience owning a home and meeting great guests and home owers as well.
MBB: Phew it sure is a tough one helping someone plan a trip to Disney!! LOL
I love talking to people and meeting new people going to Disney! I could do it all day long!! LOL

Have a great vacation!

Lynn,
I keep in touch with past guests as well! Its so nice to form a great relationship with someone who had stayed in and enjoyed our home as much as we enjoy it. It makes all the work with it worth while!
