Has anyone ever regretted buying an annual pass?

Next Christmas will be our third trip to WDW. I think we're starting to get the "Disney bug". However, we're hesitant to buy an annual pass because we're just never certain of our plans. Last Christmas we had a trip all planned for the MVMCP which we had all looked forward to, then we had to cancel due to some problems with my foot. I'd had surgery on my foot to fuse a bone in June. You'd think it was a safe bet the foot would be healed by Christmas. Planning the trip kind of kept me going and kept my spirits up all during the long convalescence. Heal it did, but my foot "overdid it" and a spur formed, almost like an internal callous. It was surgically removed and all is fine now. However, my surgery date was the date we'd planned for MVMCP! Well, my point is, we can't always predict the future so we're hesitant to buy an AP. Has anyone else had a similar situation in which their plans had to be changed and they'd made an investment in AP's they couldn't use?

the APs arent activated untill you take them to the park/dtd..it is still extra for things like MVMCP or MNSSHP though..

That's why I've always bought AP vouchers just in case I had to cancel, although I have never had to cancel. I figured if I did have to cancel, I had the AP for a future time, plus it saved me money buying it early, a win, win situation. The voucher never expires, just the activated pass. Luckily, I've never had to worry about it though.

Guess I've learned something! I thought the AP were good for a year from date of purchase, not date of first use. Now it makes more sense. Thanks!

I think though, that even with that misunderstanding you have a good point. When we had our annual passes, DD and I bought ours in June then DH bought his in Dec.(We bought and activated them on the days of purchase.) The plan was that DH and I would go back by ourselves in May the following year and make sure he got his use out of his. As it turned out we stayed longer the trip in December--one of the perks of driving!!--and then come spring it did not look like we were going to go. That would have been really hard to take since we could have bought him a pass I had read about on here that was good for 30 days after purchase and would have saved us $100.

We did end up going in May with the whole gang, but had we not, I might have regretted buying the AP for him. You're right--life is unpredictable. The thing I love most about the APs is the feeling that you can go into a park for a couple of hours and not feel you have wasted a day on a hopper.

have u thought about the park hopper passes i was told they never expire so depending on how long u stay for that might be an option

I've had an AP for years and have never ever regretted it. I love being able to go to the parks for an hour or two if I want to.

I finally upgraded this year to PAP and so far I'm not sure if that was a good move. My last two trips (Dec. and Jan) I ended up in ER (appendectomy on first day of trip in Dec. and a bad fall in Jan that required stitches) and was too tired at the end of the day to go to PI or DQ and it was too cold for the water parks. I'm going again in May and hope to finally get some use out of the premium part of my AP. If not I'm going back to regular AP when I renew.
