:earsboy: I have a plain black -boring-suitcase that I use for every Disney trip and I have been thinking about sprucing it up with Mickey shapes in my favorite bright colors. My plan was to make a stencil using the Home Depot paint chip as the shape and trace it out onto a piece of plastic to use as the stencil. I'm just not real sure what type of paint would be best to use considering the wear and tear. I saw a show on TV last year where this woman painted laungerie coming out of her suitcase (it was really something!) and she used acrylic paint.

Has anyone done this and does anyone have any suggestions as to what type of paint I should use or the best way to seal the paint if I use acrylics?

I welcome any and all ideas and suggestions. :flower:

Thanks,
Shannon

Well you could do a iron on. If you are going to do something Disney just make sure it has the Disney copywritght things on it or else, if you are in a Disney hotel they will destroy the suitcase. You could do a setensil with silver paint of mickey or something

I am curious, why do you think the suitcases would be destoyed? i do not think the underpaid employees care one way or another what kind of artwork is on a suitcase.

You can use regular spraypaint. We have in the past put a gold stripe around our suitcase with spraypaint. You might have to re-spray it once in a while, but it holds up pretty good.

I have since gotten lime-green straps that go around the suitcase.

Check the scrapbooking thread, someone there would know as I remember seeing a lot of talk about it last year this time. Maybe ask someone here that has one of those embrodery disney machines to make you your fav. disney thing then glue it on the front. Mine would be peter and tink I think, I think i'll do that. I bought the didney iron ons from big lots to do it but it would look necer if I could get someone from the boards to send me a emb. pic in stead. good luck. Mum of two pirates

If there is a place for it you could get your luggaged embroidered. We have our carry on with mine and my DH's names and mickey heads on the sides. I would love to get my other piece done too. They are actually disney luggage pieces from WDW and DL.

hobby lobby has lots of cool disney patches starting at 1.99 you could put on your suitcase-hope this helps!

Last time we went to WDW, many of the resorts we visited had a DVC booth and were giving a lot of stickers to the kids. We plastered our suitcases with these DVC resort stickers to distinguish our black luggage from everyone elses. They lasted a couple of trips, and then we put other Disney stickers on them.

great ideas!! I have been wanting to mark our luggage so that we can find them at the airports!!! Think it would be alright to put the outline of Mickey on them and color each differently with acrylic paints? Sure would make them stand out if they were floresent colors!! :rotfl:

My DD has a small red canvas suitcase. For her first trip I put Disney stickers all over it. They lasted for about 1 trip. Now I've drawn Mickey Mouse head shapes all over as well as the Month and Year she's gone with Sharpies-they've lasted great! I used the "mouse ears" to create the two 0 on the years. It's cute. So far her suitcase has June 2002, Dec. 2003, Sept. 2004, and Jan. 2005. And in less than 2 weeks Sept. 2005.

13 days and counting!!!! :grouphug:

I had some leftover fabric paint from making tote bags for xmas last year and used that on the boys suitcases. We've already flown once with them and it's holding up fine.

I really appreciate the ideas. They are great!! :Pinkbounc

Earlier I was a little discouraged about the post regarding my suitcase being destroyed by the disney hotel staff but I have since had time to re-think this and realized that Disney makes stencils and you can stencil anywhere you want. As long as it is for my own "personal use" and I am not trying to sell or profit from it.

I created a Classic Pooh character suitcase. A few years back when they first came out with the Classic Pooh tapestry luggage I absolutely fell in love with it because Classic Pooh is my FAVORITE! But I didn't fall in love with the price. I had a plain black suitcase as well and decided to "Disney" it up. I could not find Classic Pooh stencils anywhere, so I made my own by tracing the characters onto cardboard and cutting them out. I used fabric paint - the kind you brush on works best. Then I used fabric paint in bottles to outline the characters and add features (faces, Tigger's stripes, etc.) It came out much better than I had imagined - it has Pooh, Piglet, and Tigger on the front and Eeyore on the back. I even took a plain black luggage tag and painted it to look like a hunny pot. Now I have no trouble finding my luggage at baggage claim. Since then, I've bought a few pieces of the Classic Pooh tapestry luggage when I caught them on sale, but my own piece is still my favorite. I say go for it and good luck!
