okay, so i was planning on using garden grocer ... but then i read that the resort shops sell 1/2 gallons of milk and i believe loaves of bread as well...

so i checked with our airline (Southwest) and they said we are each allowed 2 checked bags and 1 carry one in addition to a personal bag...a purse or backpack or laptop, etc...

there is no way we are going to use all that luggage for only 7days...

so i asked if it would be okay to use one of our bags for dry snacks and they said sure...

so i am thinking of packing a bag with goldfish crackers, pop tarts, granola bars, a small peanut butter jar etc...

has anyone ever done this and did it work out okay??? I would assume it's better to make this a carry on bag so as to avoid the food getting crushed...

Yes, I packed some things for my niece as she is lactose intollerant and I wanted to make sure she had enough to eat.

I packed some microwave popcorn (Kettle Corn, the only kind she can have), Potato Chips, Lollipops, Fruit to go bars, crackers, nuts, Oatmeal Pkgs (for me) and some cereal and granola bars for myself.

The food court has a toaster, microwave and hot water if you need it to prepare any food.

This year, I am packing some Cheerios and I have a fridge from a swap so we will have cereal for breakfast in the room. It took awhile for her food to be made each morning at the food court.

Most of this was in a carry on as we spent most of the day getting to WDW and I wanted to make sure she had enough to eat on the plane/airport.

AWESOME --- thanks so much for your quick responses to both my threads...I just wanted to make sure that this idea would work okay --- we don't travel much (can you tell?) so i didn't know if it was a wise thing to do or not...

great idea about the microwave popcorn --- that will be great for the kids to snack on at the pool and to pop and take in small baggies to the parks...

Yes I packed snacks and such for my son who can not have milk products as well. We also flew southwest with no problems except for our first trip. I did not realize that you could not carry on peanutbutter. So be sure to check anything like that. If you are taking cereal that should do ok in your checked luggage as well. I only carried on the delicate things like the pop tarts so that they would not get crushed and anything that we might need on arrival. The rest did fine in the checked luggage. If you will not have a fridge in your room and want to bring cereal and such they do provide ice machines. We used the ice bucket provided in the room to keep our milk cold for the week. Just be sure to refill the ice first thing in the morning and last thing in the evening and you should be good to go.

Most food courts do sell 1/2 gallons of milk but not all sell loaves of bread. At Pop we could only get slices of bread for the price of a loaf here at home. Only the home away from home type of resorts had bread by the loaf. We packed bread in our carryon to avoid having to run around looking for a place that sold bread. Much more affordable as well.

I packed tons of food for my infant son, and cans of formula, etc. I sometimes spread it out between other people's suitcases and put it in a place where it can't be squished. And also put whatever it is in a big ziplock bag (even if it is already packaged) because everrything leaks. Even crackers!!!!!

Thanks for asking this! We're also on SW and I was thinking of packing some snacks ahead of time. We're offsite w/a car but I hate paying more for things when I know I could have bought them on sale w/a coupon for less! I plan to bring granola bars, poptarts, cereal, baggies, now will add popcorn to the list - great idea! crystal light packets, etc. I figure the space can be used for any souvenirs on the way home.

thank you for saying this --- i did not know this, i just assumed all the stores sold bread as well --- great idea to pack your own, i had not even thought about it...

also, thank you about mentioning the Peanut Butter and checking it --- i would have packed it to carry on, so now i will pack it with our luggage that will be checked as well as jelly...

Yes I bought a large soft sided cooler like this one...checked in like luggage...

http://www.target.com/IGLOO-Hard-Li...&field-browse=1038576&rh=k:soft cooler&page=2

And filled it with dry goods...Cereal, Crackers, Breakfast bars, coffee, ect...and some Juice Boxes...
Then we ordered Water and Milk and Soda from GG.
You can use the cooler to keep the milk and juice inwhen you get there.:thumbsup2

good idea --- we have a soft sided cooler that rools on wheels...it would be perfect for a carry on ---

We ordered bread from GG so it wouldn't be crushed.

We packed one bag full of cereal, cans of speghetti (which we didn't use), gold fish, etc. It was great to have and then everything else came from GG.

There was a note inside the luggage saying that security had gone through it but everything was in exactly the same spot.

From GG we got orange juice, apple juice drinking boxes (which were the same that Disney sells), a case of water, a jug of milk, apples, bananas, bread and bagels. It was so nice to have.

Last year week took all our breakfast food on the plane including microwave bacon (the kind that doesn't have to be refrigerated). I think we took individual servings of peanut butter too. If you plan on taking water bottles or refilling ones there the flavor packets are great to have and don't take up much room.

We will be flying in to Orlando and renting a car, staying at the WL. Is there not a CVS/Wal-Mart or something on the way that we could stop at?

yes :) we don't fly, but we take food each year. we pack a small box with breakfast foods, paper plates, plastic spoons, etc. and take a cooler for milk, juice boxes and my special peanut butter. we refill the ice in the morning and at night, and we've never had anything go bad. it's sooooo much quicker (and less expensive!) to grab breakfast in the room as we get ready to go than to have to find something to eat for breakfast later on.
just a note: the rolling cooler might not be allowed in wdw parks.
