Has anyone ever lied about a kid's age & got away w/it?

I don't know if I dare to ask this...but does anyone want to confess?

Our situation for the next cruise is that my DS will be 8 & our good friends from GA's DS will be 7 & 3/4. They want to be together in the lab. These are kids who only get to play together once or twice a year. I want them together too. The younger kid is an only child & very mature. He doesn't want to be in the club w/ our younger family & friends who will be barely 5 & 6. He prefers to play w/ older kids.

Has anyone just given Disney a different b-day and then claimed typo if anyone noticed, such as putting the b-day as 6-10-97 instead of the real b-day of 9-10-97.

Since you have to provide a certified copy of a birth certificate I would think it would be nearly impossible.

If your concern is only putting them in the same program together, discuss this openly with the counselors. They will definitely move a child up within 1month of their birthday, and will often do this on a case by case basis if asked, even if they are not within a month.

You can't lie, since you need to provide the birth certificates, as said below. The question has come up with regard to 19-20 year olds who would like to buy a drink.

Do they actually check the exact month when you board? You don't supply the copy at the OC, only at check-in & when you get on & off the boat certain places.

Again, I'm just wondering if anyone ever got away w/it. I know people have tried it all. The only time of year we can cruise is summer b/c I'm a teacher & the kids have school. We could wait until 2007 to get the boys in the same age group, but let's face it--who could wait 3 years after falling in love w/ it this year. We can't go next year b/c it's on the other coast.

Frustrated w/ the inflexibility of certain rules sometimes.

I really don't think it's necessary to fib about his age. In my experience and others that I've read about on this site, Disney is entirely flexible with their club/lab ages. Our DD was a little over a month away from her 8th birthday when we cruised. After seeing her size (very tall for her age) and speaking with her for a few minutes, they recommended she was placed in the lab with the 8 & 9 year olds.

I'm sure if you all go down together to register the boys, it won't be a problem.

My boys will be 7 1/2 and 8 3/4 when we cruise in March. I want them to be together in the Lab, so our plan is when we register them, we'll just request it. From what CM_Mom responded (and others experienced first hand as well) when I asked about exceptions to the age-breaks, the Club/Lab staff will take a lot of things into consideration for moving a 7 y.o. child to the Lab -- a lot of times they do it as a "trial" and as long as the younger child is fitting in and complying with rules / regulations in the Lab, they get to stay in the Lab together.

So I wouldn't worry about fibbing on the ages -- just present your case in a positive light when you register the kids (and it would probably be good to register them at the same time so the staff can see the kids together).

If it helps, my DS was 4 1/2 and they were willing to move him up to be with his brother. No problems! We just went in and made the request on the first day. They said it would be on trial basis only, but lasted the whole cruise (7 day) with no problems!

The two times we cruised, the kids clubs had a list of the kids to be expecting to sign up. The reason I know this is because when we signed up my 9 year old to participate in the lab, the counselors questioned me on my older son, then almost 13. We explained that he was accepted in the teen club. The counselors just crossed him off their list while the teen club added him to the list.

Our friend's son was 3 mos away from the next age group and they let him in the older club....they do an "interview" with the child to determine if they can handle the older club.

I am not going to preach as you already know it's wrong....so don't lie about their ages...talk to the counselors and explain the situation...if they feel the child can handle the club, they will let him in......the rules are there for a reason and if everyone thought they had valid reasons not to follow them where would we all be? DCL has their age info in their database. I believe all they have to do is punch in their name/and or cabin number and/or swipe the KTTW card and exact ages are listed for everyone so I do not think you could "lie" your way through. Okay...I preached...

Your age is on the KTTW card when it's swiped. We noticed this when getting on and off the ship. So I'd just be upfront about the request.

They do check to make sure the names and birthdates match up to what they have on their computer and the bc.

Ok, darn I guess we'll have to be honest but because the younger guy will be 4 months away I am not holding up much hope & he's short---failure to thrive/health problems for many years .

Maybe we'll just fib & say they're cousins from different parts of the country to increase our chances. I hate to be like this, it's really not me, but I want these two boys to have fun together so bad. It could be their only cruise together--long story of finanacial issues w/ his parents. Those of us who are doing ok financially sometimes forget how blessed we truly are.

Mary - explain your situation to the counselors. I am sure they will offer the younger child a trial run if there is room in the Lab.

If worse comes to worst, you could move the older child down into the Club.

Plus there is always the time the boys spend with everyone together. Maybe if the Club/Lab doesn't work out, the adults could take turns spending time with the boys so everyone has some adults only time.

No need to lie...my son was 7 1/2 in May when we cruised and the counselors had absolutely no problem letting him in with the 8-9 year olds to be with his brother. Don't stress yourself about it!

DVC Mary-LIE- if your students only knew their teacher was thinking of commiting such a sin. No, I'm just giving you a hard time. I'm a fellow teacher so I know how we're such perfect angels.
I'm surprised that CM_mom hasn't posted to you yet. Her DD who works in the club PM'd me about an age question I had for DS. Don't lie to them. You know once they find out something is suspicious they'll be on their guard. CM_mom's DD stressed that the CM's are there to help you have a magical time on the cruise. I'm sure they'll work with you to make the best of the situation for your family as well as the other kids. Another option may be that your DS go down a group. The CM's will talk to the 2 boys and figure out what's best for everybody. Just be honest with them and they'll do their best. If you start telling little "white" lies and they catch you in them they'll have a harder time accomidating you. Remember your 2 boys will be in the clubs for the duration of the cruise you don't want them to have to "remember" what to say.

Be honest!! If you are honest it always works out for the best and if you lie then all you know what breaks loose! There is nothing worse then living on egg shells during your entire cruise time that the truth might come out. It always has a way of doing so. Houzer

if you lie & they confirm the correct age on his KTTW card just out of principle they'll probably deny moving him up ... if you are up front & honest with your request from the get-go then they'll bend over backwards to try & accommodate that request ... worse case, move the 8 year old down to the Club.

Since lkohawaii expects me to chime in, guess I better put my two cents. Her information is correct about discussing the issue with the CMs. (Better be correct since she got it from my DD! )

Sometimes I feel like a broken record on the boards but you'll see me post over and over again TALK TO THE COUNSELORS. Discuss your situation with them in a gracious way and they will be glad to work something out so both boys will have a MAGICAL time.

They are trained to provide a great guest experience and they succeed because they really do enjoy what they do.

Hey guys. I'm a CM in the Oceaneer Club on the Magic (the DD of CM_Mom). First thing, don't lie. We can see on our computer the child's birthday as given on their birth certificate when you present it to get the children on the ship. Also, we compare the birthdate that you write on the registration form with what's in the computer. If there are differences, we will question you on it.

In all situations, TALK TO THE COUNSELORS!!!! (My mom keeps saying it because I keep telling her that when she asks.) We aren't trying to ruin your vacation. We take multiple situations into consideration when making decisions. We will work with you to help you and your children have a Magical vacation.
