Has anyone ever had a "bunk-bed" room at the WL or AKL?

There will be 2 adults, 1 teen, and 1 child (both girls) in the room. We don't know if 2 queens would be better or bunk-beds. The teen that is going is almost 6 foot tall, so I dunno if a bunk bed would be too uncomfortable/small?

Hello:

We stayed in a bunk bed room last Dec at AKL with our sons (ages 7 and 4), so it was great for us. I just looked at my room photos, and although there is no footboard on the bunk bed, the ladder could create shortened space for your teen. I loved the bunk bed because it provided extra floor space, so the room felt bigger. However, your tall teen might feel cramped. Maybe you could find some photos of a bunkbed room on ourlaughingplace.com and judge for yourself.

Enjoy!

I still haven't figured out how to put a photo on this website or I'd post mine...we were just there last month and had a bunk for our 10 and 8 year olds. They both slept really well and enjoyed the bunk. I don't know that the bed is any shorter than a queen would be...
My kids switched upper/lower each night and the one on the lower bunk got to answer the wake up call each morning!

We have stayed at both resorts with bunk bed rooms. My DD 15 & DS 12 loved having the beds. It's the width of a regular twin bed. The top bunks footboard is on about 2/3rds the width of the bed the other is where open where the ladder comes up. The only problem I would find is if your teen stayed on the bottom bunk, she'd probably be hitting her head when she sat up.

We're headed to the WL for our first stay there in a few days (yay!) and I have requested a bunk bed view because I heard that it makes the room feel larger, and also because I thought dd would have fun with them. There are pics of the rooms on www.allearsnet.com Deb has a great slide show of the WL, including all types of rooms.

We just returned from AKL on Sat, and we had one bunk bed room & one regular room.

The bunk room worked well as my 2 boys , 11 & 14 used the bunks & my 16 yr DD got the bed to herself!

But by the end of the week my 14 yr DS said the bed was getting "too crapmed "for him, he's just about 6 ft! He didn't mind it too much, said it was better than sharing a bed with one of his siblings!!

Hey Taurus, remind me, I will try and remember to bring a pic in of the bunk bed rooms. I have been in a connecting room on the 5th floor, one room had a set of bunk beds, a queen bed and a day bed. The other room had 2 queens.

We had the deluxe room at AKL and my teen son about the same height as daughter at the time was O.K. with the top bunk but said it was cramped. His feet kind of hung off the end, and he is a wrestler (big boy) so it was a little wobley.

We had a bunk room at AKL. I was 46 at the time, 6'2" and 230 and had the top bunk. The bunks are pretty solid and I fit fine, though not spectacularly comfortable I slept decently.

Are the bunk bed rooms only savannah view or do they have them pool view. we are going next week and my DD would love thebunk beds. Thanks!

We were there this past April and my DS is a bit over 6 feet. He slept in both the top and bottom bunk. He liked the bottom one a bit more, but was not crowded in either. He could hit his head in either if he sat up too quickly. I believe that the bunk beds are an option in all the rooms, not just the savannah rooms. We requested the bunk beds when making our reservation and really enjoyed it. My DS is 13 and DD is 10 and it was great that they had their own beds. :Pinkbounc

O.K., we're back from our bunk bed room at WL! DD had fun with them, although there is a sign on the bed that says not to allow children under 6 yrs. old on the top bunk, so we didn't let her sleep up there. It did seem to open the room up a lot, and we had a woods view room. We could see the castle, watch Wishes from our room, and also could see the CR and the monorail. We loved it!

We were at WL Nov 27th - Dec 4th. We had a bunk bed room. I had requested room 2024 or nearby, from a recommendation posted on the WL FAQ forum, not realizing that these were bunk bed rooms. We got room 2020 and WE LOVED that room. DS6 and DD4 loved having the bunk beds. Of course the first fight was over who was going to sleep on top. (Didn't see a sign that said the top not recommended for children under 6). They readily agreed to switching every other night, but the big decision was who was going to sleep on top first. So finally I offered the solution that one person would get to sleep on top first, but the other person would get to sleep on top two nights in a row the next two nights, and thus sleep on top more times. DD4 immediately realized the advantage of this deal, and agreed to let her brother sleep on top first. DS6 was just happy to get his way and agreed too, but was a little miffed the next night when he really realized what he agreed to. :earseek: But it actually worked out to be a good schedule, and everyone was happy.

We've had a bunk bed room on AKL fifth floor (a deluxe room). It also came with a daybed which would provide another option.

Yes, we had them in a pool view room last summer. My kids (12 & 8) loved them. They had to alternate top and bottom.

We've had bunkbed rooms at both WL and AKL and really liked them. I have a girl and boy so it worked out very well for us. Also I feel that the rooms in these two resorts are smaller than the rooms in the other deluxe resorts so having the bunkbeds made the rooms seem larger, more room to get around. As for height, I don't know, nobody if 6 feet, but I think you will be ok. Just the fact that both kids can have their own bed is enough IMHO.

Good Luck and Have Fun!!
