Has anyone ever gone with a performance group? I have a dilemma.

DD was supposed to go to Disney in a few months to perform with her dance group. Now it's looking as if we're not going to be able to go. The rest of the group will go as planned - just not us. :( Problem is, we've already paid the dance teacher for the park passes that include a discount and certain stipulations about when they can be used and stuff. I've called the Disney performance program folks and they were very nice but basically said that I'll have to get the dance teacher to find out what our options are regarding a refund or using the tickets. I've been waiting a couple days now and haven't gotten a response from her. So I thought it might be worth a shot to ask here. Has anyone else had this happen? Or has anyone gone with a dance group and can tell me what the rules are regarding those park passes? We are NOT looking to do anything unethical - we'd just like to be able to either get our money back or get some park passes we can use later. If that requires paying the difference between our discounted tickets and the regular price of a ticket, we are good with that. We just hate to see several hundred dollars go down the drain.

Performance group tickets are typically not changeable or upgradeable in any way, and they have expiration dates very soon after they are issued. You really do need to hear from the dance teacher. It might be that they have others who would purchase your tickets.

Thank you for the reply. I was afraid that might be the case. The gentleman I talked to did tell me that the tickets are usually good for 7 days before and 7 days after (I'm assuming he meant before and after the performance date). That's too bad if we can't extend that a bit. We had thought we might go down a couple weeks later to celebrate our 25th anniversary since not going on the dance trip kind of frees us up to get to do something for ourselves. Hopefully I will hear back from the dance teacher soon.

I've never gone with a dance team but I can tell you the packages they sell for Cheerleading Worlds are non-refundable and non-transferable. I would stay on the dance teacher until she gives you some kind of option.

I've gone with Pop Warner groups before and the tickets/packages aren't paid for until about 10 days before. Is this not the case in your situation- have you already paid for the tickets??

We've still not gotten a response from our dance teacher so we've been brainstorming on this while we wait. Here's a question for those of you who have gone using these performance group tickets - since we have paid for the tickets, will the dance teacher be required to give them to us whether we go with the group or not? I'm not sure at this point that we would be able to use them during the two week time span that they are valid. But say we were able to work it out to go on our own during that timeframe, would we be able to use those tickets?

We were required to pay for the tickets nearly a month ago even tho the trip is still a few months away. When I first told the dance teacher that we may have to pull out, I asked if a refund is possible and she replied that she didn't know if she would be able to get a refund for us. I took that to mean that she has bought the tickets already.

I would think that if the tickets have already been purchased and the dance teacher has received them, then you should be able to use them regardless of whether you're included in the performance or not. Disney has no way of tracking this that I know of. Of course, if you won't be able to use the tickets it might be too late to get a refund on them. Bottom line, I think the dance teacher is going to have to call and ask Disney if there is any way to get a refund and return the tickets. If she gets a refund, she can pass it along to you. Good luck!

Thank you. This is what we're hoping - that we will at least be able to use the tickets. A refund would be preferable. But if that just isn't an option, we've talked it over some more and think we can go within the timeframe the tickets are good and at least get a couple days of park time out of them. I was thinking the same thing - that the tickets would be usable regardless of whether DD performs with the team or not. They allowed us to buy for ANY family members who would like to go with us - parents, siblings, grandparents, etc. So I wouldn't think it matters that much to Disney if we go ahead and use them. I would think they would prefer that we do as that will mean we'll spend more money. If we cancel altogether, they lose what we would have spent on a resort room, meals, etc.
