Has anyone ever driven from Orlando to Ft. Lauderdale?

We have a wedding to go to this November in Ft. Lauderdale & wanted to head up to Orlando for a few days. We were thinking of flying into/out of Orlando & driving down for the wedding, then driving back to Orlando. YahooMaps & Mapquest say it's about 4 hours. Is that accurate?

We have tickets to Universal that we got under a special deal & they expire Dec. 31st of this year so we want to make sure we use them.

We did that last year. It was exactly 4 hours for us. But you may want to do what we did..We flew into FLL and left out of MCO and the airfare was actually cheaper (DELTA). Try shopping the airlines in may be cheaper for you as well.

It always takes us about 4 hours as well. You need to allow for traffic, or as was the case for us last year, a very heavy rainfall that slowed everyone down. We usually fly into FLL and then fly out of MCO or vice versa depending on how we arrange the trip. We have a lot of family in the SoFla area so we always incorporate a Disney and family visit together. It really isn't a bad ride. The turnpike seems to be the fastest way to go, except it does cost around 11 or 12 dollars from what I remember. You can take 95 straight up, and then connect with the Bee line, but that way seems to take substantially longer.

My DH must have a lead foot, because it always takes us 3 1/4 hours!!!! And we're actually coming from south of Ft. Lauderdale!!!! I'd definately recommend flying into MCO and then home from FLL, it doesn't cost any more than flying in/out of MCO and would be MUCH more convienent!!!

I hadn't thought of flying into FLL & out of MCO. That would be much more convenient if it's not too expensive.

We do it all the time, the fares almost always are the same, and there isn't a charge for picking up a rental car and dropping it in at a different location in Florida. It does save a 3 to 4 hour drive back....
