Has anyone ever done a day trip from DLP to Meaux?

Seriously thinking about trying to visit DLP later in the year to see all the 20th anniversary celebrations and whilst looking at a map of the area I noticed that there is a town called Meaux about 25 minutes north east of DLP. Had a look at some photos and videos of the town and it looks lovely and thought it would be worth a visit. I've been in DLP so many times now and apart from Paris city centre I've never actually looked to see what else was around it.

From what I can see there is no train line between DLP and Meaux so I wonder if there is a bus or something? If anyone has ever done the trip any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

You have the N°19 bus which goes from the bus station at DLP to Meaux. It's around 30 minutes

The N°12 goes as well but it's more round the houses and takes around 50 minutes

A nice(r) trip would be to Provins which is also easy to get to by bus and takes around an hour

I must admit my first thought on reading this was, "Why?". Having been a few times, I am not that struck on Meaux but maybe I am missing something?

Well I thought that too ;) that's why I suggested Provins.

My OH comes from Meaux and all his family still live there so I've visited it a lot and I'm maybe not objective but for someone seeing it the first time it could be a nice morning/afternoon out

The cathedral and the museum are interesting :goodvibes

We took the bus to Provins one year and thoroughly enjoyed our day there. :goodvibes

Thanks Carrie Cat for all those links. I will have a good look at them. I just happened to be looking at a map of the area and saw that Meaux was nearby and when I did a search for some photos of it it looked nice. It looks small and quiet but I love everything about French culture not just DLP :)

cherry marzipan, you only say "why?" because, as you say, you've been there a few times. I've never been so even a few hours there would be of interest to me. I would ask why have you gone more than once if it's that bad?

I'll have a look into Provins too. I've been to Paris city many times and years and years ago I went to Orleans. I have a friend originally from Chartres so I'd love to see that someday too.

As always thanks for all the advice guys!

PrettyP, sorry, I just meant that I had been there incidentally on occasions and not been impressed enough to make a special trip of it. It is only my opinion though, you may love it and if I have been missing something I will be interested to find out.

Happy exploring! :goodvibes

I hope you enjoy it if you do go Pretty P :goodvibes

I have to say, I have been looking more at what is around the area - ashamed to say I haven't even been to Paris yet on our previous 2 trips to DLRP (although I have been to Paris twice before having the children).

I really like the sound of a longer stay in the area - perhaps a campsite and visiting DLRP as part of that but not doing so many days there - getting the opportunity to explore other areas. I know DD1 would love Versailles & parts of Paris but DD2 wouldn't just yet :rolleyes1.

No need for apologies cherry marzipan. Was just wondering what you thought was so bad about it. I can see from the photos that it's quite small but I just thought the architecture looked lovely.

I studied French after I left school so I love to use it when I can and I've always loved the French way of life (am not so adventurous with the food!) so even though I am a crazy DLP fan and would spend every minute of every day there if I could I also wanted to spread my wings a bit this time :)

Hi

I didn't really mean it was "so bad", more unremarkable. I too studied French after school and I love looking at old French architecture and history but would not personally classify Meaux among my list of small and pretty French towns. The river is OK and as Carrie says, there is the cathedral.

If you are like me you will want to see it anyway, just because it is there! Be prepared to be underwhelmed though...:goodvibes

No. 19 single ticket costs 1.90 here's your up to date timetable for the route:

Easy to find on the right of the bus station half way along (opposite side to the disney stops) don't expect to que expect to wrestle your way on :thumbsup2

New war museum just opened in Meaux this year seeing as World War 1 was pretty much ended in this area (battle of the Marne anyone?) quick history lesson for you. This place is as far as the Germans got with their plans to invade Paris :)

You can always go to crecy la chapelle and villiers sur morin too, those places are cute! it's where artists such as Toulouse lautrec etc. Ued to escape Paris for for extra painting inspiration.

Easy enough from chessy, buses are direct and in the same place, timetable here:

If you look for adventure and like to see new stuff it's lovely in the surrounding areas!

Thanks for all the information Orion33!! I'm going to have a look at all those other places you mentioned to. My husband knows quite a lot about WW1 so he had told me about the battle of the Marne. Will be inerterested to have a look at some photos and videos on flickr and you tube of those other places I hope there are some.

Thanks again!! :thumbsup2

Oddly enough my first trip with my DW or DG as she was in those days, was a Eurotunnel trip, AA insurance and one night overnight stay in a hotel for £99 15 odd years ago. We chose Meaux for no real reason and ended top staying there for a few days. We had some nice food but I can't really remember much about the town. It's famous for its strong Brie (de Meaux) which is one of my favourite cheeses though I have to leave it until you can barely lift it as it is so floppy and it stinks out the fridge before I'll eat it! :rotfl2:

While in Meaux, we took our first trip to a theme park along the road, Disney something or other :confused3 Anyway, that started a bit of a trend....

We had a few trips round about, the area is quite nice but it was 15 years ago and I can't remember exactly where we went
