Has anyone ever been upgraded when using points?

I'm just curious. My DW and I were upgraded from studio to 1BR in 1999, but I had booked through CRO on a special. This year I'm renting points, and was just curious if anyone had ever been upgraded from a studio to 1BR with OR WITHOUT asking? Thanks.

Last week at BWV I had a studio ,preferred view. When we went in the room there was a funny odor. I called housekeeping and they sent someone up to spray a deoderizer. It didn't work. Then they set up a hepa filter to remove the odor. We slept with it on all night. In the morning the odor seemed to be gone,so we call housekeeping and told them to remove the filter. When we got back from the parks the odor was still there. I went to the front desk and told the CM there, she said because we were there on points she would have to charge us for a room change, and there were no preferred view studios available. I told her that we told them about the problem as soon as we walked in the door. And we tried to have it rectified before we used the room. She went in the back room and conferred with her supervisor and came out with a 1 BR and an apoligy. I was not looking for an upgrade, just a room without an odor. Thats the good news, the bad news is now I have to change my ressie in January from a studio to a 1BR, my wife won't go back to a studio. I can see another resale coming.

Regards, Rich

Upgrades have happened like from a standard view to a preferred view or a studio to a 1 BR. I even remember hearing about someone given a GV but don't recall if it was cash or points. Still it's very unlikekly, especially if you're renting.

We were upgraded to a preferred view studio from a standard view studio last Nov. We were there on rented points. The CM did say that that was only the 2nd time she'd ever seen that happen, though:eek:

LOL Rich!!! That's the trouble with staying in a 1 BR. The studios just don't cut it after that, even though they are extraordinarily nice. The same thing happened to DH and I. We bought another contract!;)

we were upgraded from a studio to a 1 bedroom this past April. We were only staying one night and it was just before the holidays. It was a point stay. We don't want to go back to a studio now either!

We were booked for a GV at OKW. The day before we were to leave, DVC called and asked if we minded changing to BWV. We had never stayed there but that was great with us. It didn't cost us anymore points. They even gave us park passes for the entire group which was many more than we would have gotten at OKW. It seems they had over booked at OKW and they picked us to ask to change. It was a great trip and the GV at BWV are very nice. Not as big as OKW, but the location is great.

My DW and I have never had an upgrade, but several years ago my mom, stepdad and little sister were on a disney cruise paying cash and got upgraded to a family suite from an oceanview without even asking for it...they were psyched!

During a recent trip to the BWV, we were given a preferred view - first floor studio overloooking the quiet pool. When we checked out, they attempted to charge us in cash for the upgrade. I politely refused to pay the cost of the upgrade and the charge was retracted..I truly believe that they make up rules as they go along but that they are also fair if you explain your situation to management...Rich

We were recently given a fabulous upgrade! We stayed at the Jefferson Hotel in Washington DC and inexplicably, we were upgraded to a suite when we arrived to check in. Not just any suite. This one had 3 bathrooms, 2 bedrooms, living room, dining area and kitchenette (for just2 of us). The best thing was the spectacular view of the Washington Monument and the White House.
The staff was wonderful and the accomodations superb !
I know will stay there again even if we do not stay in the deluxe suite. It was a beautiful and charming hotel . The city was wonderful too. People were so friendly. It was well worth the trip.

Wish we had been given an upgrade when we stayed at the Jefferson. We asked for the 2 bedroom suite so we could sleep six. It cost us a bundle of points. They put us in a small 2 bedroom with only 2 beds- 1 king and 1 full. The sofa was not a sofa bed as we thought and we couldn't even fit 2 rollaways in the area. My son slept on the sofa, which wasn't easy and his friend slept on the rollaway. It is hard to put a 6 foot person on a sofa that is less than 6 feet. You couldn't even walk in the living room it was so crowded. Our bathroom door was in front of the mirror and you had to close the door to use the mirror. I must say, I was not happy with the Jefferson. The location is nice, but not much else.

Last year my DH and I were upgraded from a standard studio to a preferred studio at BWV. It was such a nice surprise. The room was right above the Wyland Gallery, just a very short walk from the lobby. Since it was June and VERY hot all the time, the continuously shaded balcony was great for morning coffee, as well as evening relaxation! We always stay in a two bedroom when the family is with us, but we really don't mind the studio when it's just the two of us.
