Has anyone ever been to Vero Beach before?

DH saw some photos of VB recently and thought it would be a nice place to visit.

How far is it from Orlando? Is it a place where all you do is relax or are there things to see/do? How long would you stay there?

Anyone been?

We were there about four years ago. It was VERY relaxing. There's some planned activities throughout the day and evening every day. Some are free, some have a small fee--$2-4 for supplies.

There's quite a bit to do in the area, shopping, a couple museums, the Manatee area in Fort Pierce.

We didn't have time to do everything we would have liked to.

It's about two hours from Orlando, a very easy ride down the Turnpike.

I live just north of Vero Beach, so yes I have been there!! It is a nice, but quiet area. There is NOT a whole lot to do other than the beach and shopping. It isn't like Orlando at all with its multitude of things to keep tourists busy. There are the normal chain restaurants and some great local eateries. If you plan on staying within the immediate area the whole time, that is, not venturing far north or south, you will encounter 2 movie theaters, US1-Zora Galaxy 12- fairly older, keeps opening and closing with new management and the stadium seating AMC 24 theater at the Indian River Mall off of RT60, a small (and not so impressive) mini-golf place on Oslo Rd. Don't know if you are night life kinda people, but there is not much of that to be seen in the area.

Belle, are you asking about Vero beach in General or Disney's Vero beach resort in particular? Whichever you'll get a lot more replys if you put this on the DVC boards. Disney Vacation Club has a resort there and many of the DVC members are regular visitors.

It's about 90 minutes drive to Vero from WDW, there are lots of things to do in the area, but not in the same way there is in Orlando. I've only stayed at Disney's resort down there. It is more of a relaxation destination and I think the longest I've stayed there is 4 days (tacked onto a WDW vacation). It has a great pool area and a pretty good beach. There are a lot of water activities like Jetskis etc. The resort run programs like kayaking and turtle watches along the beach. There is a very nice wildlife preserve just up from the resort as well as Mel Fisher's treasure museum (there were MANY treasure ships sunk in that area hundreds of years ago and the museum details some of those finds).

It's definately more of a relaxing destination, but there are quite a few things to occupy those who get fidgetty if they spend too long lazing and relaxing.

Just wanted to chime in. My husband and I just returned from Vero Beach and it was WONDERFUL!!! We were both very impressed. We had an ocean view room and they are very large. We had dinner their 2x and also the Sunday Brunch, all was excellent. All of the CM's were fantastic. They are so nice and friendly.

We went to VB with the intention of doing nothing. We just wanted to relax by the pool and ocean. We did take a drive down A1A, it is very pretty. In short, if you want to get away from it all, Vero is the place to be. If you are looking for a lot of activity and night life, it may not be the right place for you. We loved it.

I wanted to chime in also....we took a 3 day/2night trip to VB after spending 8 hectic days in the parks at WDW and simply loved it.
It is very relaxing....soaking up the sun around the pool, walking along the beach collecting shells...totally at the other end of the spectrum of Park-hopping.

Honestly, we couldn't do this for an entire vacation. Too slow for us. But as a post-WDW add-on, it was wonderful. The way I'd describe it would be Ocean with a little Disney thrown in--the beach and ocean are the main characters at VB.
