Has anyone ever been affected by a hurricane at Disney?

We were also in Orlando in 95 when Erin came through. Luckily it passed through at night and WDW opened later in the morning. I don't think this is related but were on the UofE the next day and all of the power went out. We walked out with a CM who had a flashlight. He informed us that WDW did not not have to have emergency lighting. The entire park was out and it was wierd to be in the midst of total silence. All at once the fountains came on, the music started up, and things were back to normal.

Count us in as another family who had a Francellation last year. (Frances + cancellation)

Never did reschedule the trip to WDW. DVC returned all our points and Southwest allowed us to rebook without penalty. So we went to Universal for FOTL access during Spring break.

I was there when Hurricane Katrina came through just a couple months ago. Fortunately its effect on the WDW area was just some passing rain and wind, saving up for New Orleans!

Oh thats funny! We were in MGM the day of, (Tues Aug 1st) before the storm hit and they lost power. We were in the Library in TOT and everything just went dead. We waited it out quite a while with minimal back up lighting, but we finally gave up and left...and the power came right back on then.

I was present for Frances. I had to stay two extra nights at Pop Century, and take emergency leave from work. Because of the layout of Pop Century, spent two full days without leaving the room at all. I had cereal and peanut butter and a lot of Diet Coke I bought at the PC food court. The power never went out. The parks were closed for two days and my hangout at PI was closed for 4 nights straight. After the storm passed, there was no one in the parks, they were sweeping water out of the Pirates queue, there were bits of palm tree lying all over the Polynesian, the monorail broke down and the buses were running on an altered schedule.

Yep, rode out hurricane Charlie in August 2004 at SSR. Trees fell all around our rental car, but did not touch it. Crunched the mini van next to us.

I was there during hurricane Floyd. It rocked. The parks were nearly deserted because all the tourists and locals were packing up and leaving. The only bad thing was that they closed earlier than normal, but we got to do everything like 20 times in a row.

The next day it was a huge deal all over the radio that the parks were closed for the first time, ever. But I was there the day before that, and it was awesome ;)

We were supposed to fly home the day Charley hit. When we saw the news about the hurricane, we tried to extend our stay for one more night at POR, but they told us no rooms at the inn, hurricanes don't hit Orlando and we would be fine. We tried to reschedule our flight for earlier in the day, no can do, your flight will be fine, hurricanes don't hit Orlando.

Luckily, we didn't believe them and booked a room at the airport hotel "just in case". The airport closed 15 minutes before our flight and we spent two nights in the hotel. Many, many people were camped out on benches or curled up in corners. The hurricane hit on a Friday evening and we were not able to get a flight out until late Sunday evening.

Now fast forward to this weekend. We leave BWI tomorrow at 6:40 am and we are supposed to fly home on Sunday evening. Hopefully this time, if the airport is closed, we will be able to stay an extra night at WL.

We are going anyway. Stupid Wilma is not going to stop me.
