Has anyone else turned into a deluxe snob?

I forgot to mention that the Boardwalk Inn sealed the deal.

with a view of the boardwalk/lake...it is currently my favorite resort!

Unfortunately yes. In July we were going to try to do a budget trip and booked POR. We lasted less than 2 hours before going back to our beloved GF. Both DH and I had a pit in our stomach when we saw the GF and luckily they honored the AP rate. Now we know we won't even try another hotel. I do try to justify it to other people with the "we're a party of five" line too and I use the "we need the monorail with small kids". I'm embarrassed to say that we just like GF too much to change.

Count me in. I hate to admit it - but I too am a deluxe snob. Ten years ago, my DH and I started going to Disney and we've gone every year since...many times more than once. We started at the Value resorts for the first couple of years. Then we moved up to moderate. Then in 1999 we had our first deluxe experience at the Contemporary. Haven't looked back since. We never pay rack rate...couldn't see shelling out that kind of money. I don't think I would be happy at a moderate now that I've stayed Deluxe. The big thing for me is convenience, either the monorail or the Epcot resort area. We've stayed at the CR, YC, BC, GF, Poly and WL. My favorite is the Poly, followed closely by YC/BC.
We'll be staying at the Swan for Thanksgiving. I suppose you could count the Swan as a deluxe.

We had stayed at the Poly, WL and CR prior to our trip last year when we stayed at the CSR (week before Christmas thru New Years). We ate breakfast one morning at the Poly and were overwelmed at how crowded evey public area was. Even though the CSR was just as full we never felt crowded. So my husband and I visited all the Disney Hotels (Deluxes, moderates and Values) All the Deluxes except the CR had that crowded feel in all the public areas. Values were the same way. Have to tell you the moderates did not have that hemmed in feeling. This trip (11/26 thru Dec 6) will be at CSR, POFQ and 2 nites at AKL just because we have never been there, but I can't imagine staying at a Deluxe again. But then each to his own.

Well dh friend who is a dvc member thinks we are, but I always try to point out to him that with the 3ds we really dont have too many options. The cabins are out because of one ds asthma and I have priced 2 all star rooms, the price came out to be about the same with our swan disc. etc. for the one trip, so we took the swan. If we did have 2 value rooms, the ds would turn their room into their personal boxing ring etc, so I want everyone in one room. Its doable for us, but I watch our whole overall budget. When our family downsizes I would consider a moderate, I would like to try coronado springs.

I guess I am a Deluxe Snob. I just can't stay away from the BC. I just love the location.

On previous trips to WDW years ago, I stayed in two deluxe resorts: CR and BC. I was so-so on the CR, but that was years ago, before it had a big rehab. I loved the BC, though.

This time around, we're staying at POR. I upgraded from POP because I worried that my BF would find it loud and crowded. I'm hoping I don't remember BC well enough to be disappointed in POR. Even with AP discounts, staying at WL (cheapest deluxe) would add about $400 to the trip price. I already added $300 by upgrading from POP... I just can't see doing that again, since I'm spending so much on meals, activities, tickets, etc. so I just have my fingers crossed that we will like POR.

I have stayed at WL almost everytime I have been to WDW as an adult, And I am spoiled.

This trip we are staying at POFQ because my DW has always wanted to say there. I have no idea why when we always stay at WL (Kidding) and we live in Lousiana so it will be like being in Louisiana. WHO WANTS THAT (kidding again)

But Yeah I am a Delux snob

We just returned from a lovely stay at POR, but the whole time I kept thinking, "it's nice, but it's not the Poly". I fell in love with the Poly during our stay there last summer, and nothing else can compare. I love valet parking, I love concierge services, I love the view of the MK and GF- in general, I love the deluxe resorts. Yes, I know I'm spoiled, but how many others like me are out there?

Too funny! Because I just stayed at the POFQ, and as nice as it was, I said the same thing about the Poly! Not that there's anything wrong with the POFQ, it's a *very* nice hotel. But I *so* love the Polynesian, and I can't wait to go back!

Hmmm, I'm not so sure if it's a "deluxe snob" thing, or a "Poly Snob" thing! :earsgirl:

I loooove Deluxes. But right now I am coming off a big-time trip we took to the Poly-- it was tenth anniversary so we went all out and while we got a very nice rate at the Poly, we really busted our budget this time on dining and souviners, two areas I usually keep in check. The souviners probably got out of control because it was also dd's birthday and we got some presents, but the dining, I don't know what happened, we just ended up picking some very nice restaurants and I have to say, we really enjoyed them quite a bit. So I'm wondering if next time we should do moderate (have done it before with just dd) and use the extra money to treat ourselves on dining.

Then again, there are always what I call the "value deluxes"-- the best values on WDW property, I think, are if you can get a standard view room at WL or AKL, discounted. During value season you see these for $115-130. Amazing. Sure, you get no view, and they are the two deluxes that aren't close to a theme park, but you get all the amazing deluxe amenities and theming for a great price. So maybe we'll do that. We'll see.

Alright, count me in - delux snob with a concierge twist.

One trip to WDW, staying at the GF's main building has spoiled us indefinately. DH said he couldn't think of staying anywhere else. We walked through a lot of hotels when we were there and really tried to enjoy all of them... but the quiet in the mornings, and the music in the evenings really made it for us. Plus, every cast member was super helpful - knew us and what we liked in concierge by day 3 (I like diet coke at breakfast thank you and they just started bringing them to either one of us, sometimes both).

If we were to stay at another hotel, it would have to be a delux. I don't think I would even consider the moderates... plus we go in value season anyway.

I'll see if I'm a Deluxe Snob when we get back from our trip.
Originally had booked CBR, but with the good rates, changed it to AKL.
The only other resort I've stayed at is old Dixie Landings and French Quarter so I'm looking forward too the AKL. I know haw Disney treats Deluxe guests though, because we stayed at the Vero Beach Resort a few years ago.princess: :bounce:

Don't know if I'd call myself a deluxe snob...just someone that fell in love with a deluxe and can't imagine staying anywhere else now. The Polynesian is the only place I want to stay when planning a trip to Disney World! Unfortunately, costs may not always allow that.

I have to admit, we can't seem to go back to exterior corridors. We've stayed at POR in the past (and LOVED our stay), but after being in the Wold during a hurricane, I don't think we'd ever consider going back to the moderates. Thinking about BW, Poly, or GF for next time, as we've stayed at CR, WL, and AKL and are looking for something completely different. Unfortunately, our girls' schedules dictate that we take our vacations during hurricane season, so it's deluxes from here on in (bummer)!!!

Yup! But not just at Disney!

To me, part of being on a vaction is staying at a really nice hotel. Dont' get me wrong, the moderates ARE nice hotels, but not quite what I have in mind for my own comforts.

When not at Disney, I try to stay at Marriotts, Hiltons, etc. when possible (unless it's just for a night, then I'll save the $$$ and stay at a Hampton Inn or the like). To me, it's just part of the vacation experiance. I just plan on the extra expence and work extra hard to save up the money.

Same for Disney. Sure, I can have a Value for $70 or a Mod. for $100 a night. And I'd still have fun. But Disney to me is more than the parks, it's also the resort. And I'd rather pay more for WL or Poly and have exactly what I want, than stay at a Mod. an not be as happy. To me, paying $70 for something I dont' want is a waste, but $200 for exactly what I'm looking for is a good deal.

But that's just how I feel. Those that'd rather save money and buy more soveniers or stay for more nights have perfectly valid opinions, and I know not everyone is as blessed as BF and myself as fare as finances go. To each their own!

Absolutely.....

I am and will always be a deluxe snob. It's just plain worth it. If you can afford it then do it because you'll feel like you're just a little extra special. Think about all the time you sit in a traffic jam and go to work to save for a vacation. Then it gets cheapened slighty by a so so hotel room with no sit down service etc. etc. After the parks close part of the fun is eating and drinking and then to the room. No bus, no car, no parking, just relaxing. I know that sometimes the budget doesn't allow such things but it's all in how you look at it. For instance someone who has to choose a value resort over deluxe can cut out the morning lat'e and $20 a week blockbuster habit (I know, I used to work for them. Buy the movies, It's cheaper) and presto you just saved the extra dough!

And for the people that actually think about staying off property, well that's just plain lunacy unless it's for free with a sit down breakfast. You get no transportation, and you must park your car etc. etc. I don't even take my car to the airport. It costs like $60 - $70 for 2 weeks and you have to park in long term then carry all the bags to and from the terminal. No thanks, I learned a long time ago for and extra $40.00 a car service does it all for me round trip.

I'm a value snob:p Me, I'd rather spend my money on something other than a hotel room (all I need is a clean bed and shower), but if you can buy whatever else you might want on vacation *and* afford to stay at a deluxe, why not? And hey, it's helps the economy!:teeth:

Nope, not a deluxe snob. Even though my favorite resorts are deluxe (Wilderness Lodge and BoardWalk Villas) and I have stayed in most all the resorts...

I would stay in any Resort at WDW anytime any season. :p I perfer staying in a Value if it means a extra trip.

I am pretty sure I have turned into a deluxe snob. We use to stay at moderate and if we were going a lot that year an occasional value visit. Now its Beach Club, Animal Kingdom, and WL and WLV and BCV. My mom wants to go to WDW this march and says we should stay at PORFQ. While its nice its just not AKL or BC. I am spoiled. LOl
