Has anyone else noticed a gap in Disney's choices?

I looked into a Disney wedding last year and decided against it, and here's the reason why.

We wanted an intimate ceremony, but we wanted 12 guests which is 4 more than the 8 allowed for an intimate wedding. I was quoted a price of around $2000 for the intimate wedding, but I was told they hold you to the count of 8 people and for 12 I would have to spend a minimum of $7500.

Since I couldn't see spending another $1700 per person to have 4 extra people in attendance we decided to get married off property and spend our wedding night and honeymoon at Disney instead. And while the wedding will be at a family member's home in Melbourne and I'm certain it is all going to be wonderful, I'm still a little sad we couldn't do it the way we wanted without feeling like we were being overcharged.

Has anyone else noticed a large gap in pricing and does anyone else think Disney is missing out on the medium number of guests market? I gladly would have paid more than $2000 to have 12 people, but not THAT much more!

For $500 more than the normal intimate wedding package, you could add 5 guests...
Not sure why your coordinator didn't mention that to you, if you asked...
Cheers!

I did ask-

It was never mentioned! Oh well, too late now.:(

Is this new?

I'm trying to remember when I called---it may have been late 2002.

www.justmarry.com offers weddings on disney property both at the Swan/Dolphin and now at Celebration hotel as well. They do not have specific numbers of guests that can attend..you choose!! All the brides I have heard from have had fab weddings with all that disney magic! I am planning my wedding at the swan for this oct. The only place numbers really matter is for your reception..you can do it there or go off on your own and do it at any resort resturant. Just another good option out there!

Yes, I know, not a wedding or honeymoon post. However, I am going crazy trying to come up with ideas and work out plans for a WDW engagement in early February that my Girlfriend (true disney nut just like me!) would love. I found out that the wonderful folks at Disney don't offer help with this anymore because it takes away from planning conventions, weds and honeymoons. You would think this would be a better money maker than many of the things they do now. (i.e. rehitchings) Oh well, I guess no Disney assistance in making magic the most important day. Perhaps they will bring it back one day. Congratulations and best wishes to those tying the knot.

You could try this company

Gifts of a Lifetime

They normally work quite a way in advance but if you ring Jane on the contact number (407) 909-0593 she may be able to help you out at this short timescale.

Good Luck - I'd be interested to know if you use them and how they work out

I have been researching a Disney vow renewal, but am not interested in spending $2900 for an add on. It would probably be just DH and myself and we are not interested in cake, reception, etc. We were just looking for a small ceremony on Disney property. Nothing fancy.

However, I can see that they would rather rent the space for more money and have more people come to visit to spend money in their parks/hotels.

BTW, I contacted gifts of a lifetime in November and received an automated email that they were working on January events. I must be in the minority, but to plan something as eventful as an engagement or special vow renewal through them, I would want more time than only a few weeks! :earseek: Especially with the amount of money that is charged. I am going to come up with a backup plan and wait to see what Jane is able to come up with for our upcoming trip.:teeth:

Now there is the re-hitching ceremony at The Garden Grill in Epcot but to me this feels more for fun than what I would regard as a serious VR.

When is your trip Tony? I have Gifts of a Lifetime working on something for me and I sent my survey in back in September for May and I then sent a follow up email in November and was also told that they wouldn't start work on it until January but so far I've not heard anything.
