Has anyone else ever gone in August?

We've gone in August for over 12 years and will be there again this year. It is really the only time that my family can go for two weeks. We love it! Yes it is hot, but it never bothers us. The last half of August is usually always a lot less crowded than the rest of the summer. IMHO this is the time my family can go so for us, it's the best time of the year!

My last two trips were in the last week of August and I'm planning one again this year. I only remember one short shower while we were there and the crowds were light. We got to the parks when they opened and we rarely waiting long for anything. It was very, very, very hot and we usually spent every afternoon at the pool. We loved Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. They are actually my husbands favorite things to do at WDW.

Have fun.

We just did it this past August! It was an extra trip to see how bad it really is. No DH on that trip. I knew going in it would be hot and rain so I was prepared.

I told people, hey I'd rather be hot at WDW then hot here!

It was HOT and humid. It did rain almost everyday except maybe 2 but it was in the evening around 4:00 - 5:00p so it didn't hurt or schedule much. We brought rags to wet us and refresh us from the resort. We brought bottled water that we froze in the fridge. Lots of sunscreen. Took A/C breaks in shops and had a mid-day sit down meal (tip I got here) to rest and get away from the sun. Start your days first thing early and then leave the park as it starts to get more crowded and hot or take a break eating/shopping or swimming and then head back to a park as it cools down. This worked well for us.

It wasn't as crowded as I thought it would be. The end of August many schools are back in session, like most of Florida. I was pleasantly surprised.

Good luck!
We went last August, at the end of our trip Frances came too. Yes they do get hurricanes but hopefully not like they did last year. It does rain every afternoon, but just for a little while. There might even be a time when it rains and your on a ride, when you get out of the ride you will say did it rain.
That happens alot down in Florida. Have fun the crowdes are low and every thing is air conditioned.

Yup... we got the "you must be crazy" line last August too...

We thought the last week of August was great! Yes, it was every bit as hot and humid as expected, but we were prepared. Water spray fans are great and my DH bought Cool Guardie neck bands which were awesome! (You soak them in water prior to use and they actually retain their coolness with no dripping.) Drink lots of water, plan frequent rests and strategic meals/shows/shopping to give you A/C breaks. We did not have rain every day and missed all the hurricane activity, but we did have lightning threats which closed the pools a few late afternoons, so plan your pool breaks with this in mind.

Mornings were really light crowd-wise in the parks; in general we thought this was a good time of year for those who don't like lines. The water parks do get crowded so go early and be prepared. The MK does close earlier in late August and the parade ran only 2 nights the week we were there, so if those kind of things are important to you, plan accordingly.
