Has anyone else confidently strode onto Soarin' only ...

I rode Soarin' the first time and did okay....Not good, just okay. Got on to ride for a second time on our next trip and had to get the CM to come unbuckle me and let me off. I just couldn't do it. I am prone to panic attacks and could feel one coming on. I knew if I didn't get off the ride quick it was going to turn really ugly. DH & kids rode while I stood in the hallway chatting with another lady who was unable to ride.

I love Sorain' but I can understand why it might upset some people. I love roller coasters and etc. but I will admit that the close to final scene zipping over the LA freeways leaves me a little dizzy. Things I have noticed from my rides: greatest sense of vertigo: row one. Greatest sense of smell-o-vision: row 2. Row 3 gives you a better sense of "skimming the water" in the river and ocean scenes.

Does anyone know why the ride was designed that people in rows 2 and 3 can see the feet of people above? To me, the "feet free" view is preferable, and it seems they would only have to raise the entire apparatus another 10 feet or so (5 feet/row) to provide everyone with a foot-free view of Soarin'.

Sorry, this is my family's new favorite ride. Rode it the first time and turned right around and got back in line!!! Just incredible!

Yikes - we are leaving later today and was planning on going on the ride, but may not put the kids on it now - not big thrill ride fans. Can someone please explain - are you REALLY high above the ground or is it just the movie that makes you feel that way? Thank you so much!

Wow all of these negative comments really surprise me (not in a negative way, I truly feel bad for those who the ride effected in a bad way)

I was under the impression this was a very mellow ride from all that I have read on these boards, wouldd it be safe to say it was the "height" that freaked most of you out? It doesnt sound like there is anything physically fear-inspiring about the ride right?

I didn't have a problem with the height at all. TOT is my favorite ride. My problem was strictly the dizziness/nausea. I have problems with dizziness at times anyway but I took my chances as most of the time rides don't bother me. It wiped my husband out too.

Allison,
How do you do on Mission Space? I love roller coasters and TOT - but really felt sick on Mission Space (and Star Wars and Body Tour - ugh!)... so now everyone has me concerned with Soarin. :earseek:

However, I am sure I will try it... took my 5 year old on Mission Space and TOT and she loved both... so I am sure we will be doing Soarin' at least once! :teeth:

You are lifted into the air. I believe I have read that row 1 is about 40 ft up, with 2nd row and 3rd row below it consecutively. It's hard to explain - you do not feel high in your actual seat, but the point of the ride is to make you feel like you are hang-gliding so the MOVIE makes you feel high. It bobs up and down so you almost feel like your feet skim the ocean but then you are projected up so it feels like you are flying over a mountain so the height level of the movie varies. The seats move, mostly front and back to simulate being carried by the wind.

It's a neat ride, no doubt, and my reaction was quite unexpected. I would do as I did: try it out first yourself to gauge whether your kids could handle it. I thought going in there'd be no problem with my 5-yr-old, but after experiencing it myself decided it was best to wait for him. I hope you love it!

I'm so glad I'm not the only one! I am in no way a roller coaster person and I do suffer slightly from motion sickness. But, I wasn't worried about Soarin' at all, in fact, I was soooo excited about the ride! I had heard that it was pretty tame. Well.....it is, sort of. It's not like you're doing loop-dee-loops or shooting down huge hills, but it does give you a realistic flying sensation. (I think so. I've never hang glided, actually.) It just did not agree with me. I had to close my eyes about part-way through and fight to keep my breakfast down. Everyone else in my family loved it and wanted to ride again. :confused3 I now refer to it as "Pukin'" :teeth:

Gotta Get To Disney :moped:
