I wasn't sure if this belonged on disabilities board. But we don't consider ourselves disabled and this pump thing has so much to do with food intake...

My DH just got his insulin pump and we learning! Just trying out the dual and square wave bolus trick. Awesome!!

Our trip is not until December, so we'll have plenty of practice on portion sizes/carb count by then. But has anyone been successful at calculating carb grams in WDW?

I'm concerned though about the amount of walking/exercise ratio to food bolus and temperary basal settings.

Did you do 50% bolus and basal temp?

Or did you just ween it and check the BG often and do correction bolus?

My DH has had his pump for 3yrs and it makes eating at wdw much easier. He has never played with any of the square or dual wave boluses mostly carb count and correct. The only issue is swimming he boluses prior and that seems to help. Did you get the new Paradym (?spelling) with the glucose monitoring built in...how is it we up grade in 6 months!

We don't have the continuous monitoring, but I've heard about it and it sounds soooo cool. Guess we'll upgrade to that when we run out on the warranty of this new one.

I'm glad to know that WDW is easier.

We just went to an advance class in which we learned square and dual waves. That was a lifesaver for us since we do alot of high fiber and whole grain stuff that doesn't digest in a short time. DH couldn't figure out why a great BG an hour after eating was sky rocketing three to four hours later. And I measured and calculated my little heart out. The dual wave took care of that.

Also in that class they talked about doing a temp basal rate that is lower than normal while you do long term excercise (like WDW all day).

It just got us curious to what kind of rate would be best. Then of course, with walking all day your insulin needs are lower therfore lower bolus.

Whew! It's so mind boggling at first.
