My husband and son are interested in doing the snuba in St Thomas. Has anyone done it and how would you rate it???
Any feedback is appreciated. :earsgirl:

We did snuba in St. John 5 years ago. It was really neat, you are attached by hose to a float on the water that holds scuba tanks (essentially). I also remember wearing scuba weights so it would be easier to stay underwater. We could go pretty deep and it was easy physically. We would definitely recommend it! We had a guide who was fantastic. Make sure you take an underwater camera for each person.

My DH, 11DS, and I did SNUBA on our cruise. It was great!! My DS did not have one single problem and took to it like a "fish-in-water". My DH and I have our PADI cards and felt slightly restricted by the hose, but had a great time.

Our guide first went over some safety and use instructions with us. She even gave our DS a short verbal test to make sure he understood. :D A tropical storm had moved through the area a few days earlier so the water was slightly cloudy. After about 15-20 minutes underwater we started to move to the ocean side of the reef, but the current was too strong. She said that she has never felt the current that strong, so we continued on the protected side of the reef. She felt that we were cheated (we never would have know .... ), so she gave us and the other family on the excursion (happened to be a DIS family also), a free copy of the photo CD. Great gift to compensate for the conditions!!

A few months ago, another DIS member asked about SNUBA. She and I emailed back and forth. She decided to rent SCUBA gear at Coki Beach and let her DS and Father SNUBA. She would be able to dive withthem, but not be restricted by the hoses.

If you have any questions, please feel free to send me a PM.

Thanks for the great replys to snuba. It looks like a fun thing to do. My dh and ds11 are looking forward to trying this.

Hi. This will be our first Disney Cruise but our 5th cruise and this is the first time I've heard about snuba. I searched the net and found info for snuba in St. Thomas and St. John with prices, locations, how to get there, etc. I was wondering if Disney offers this as a shore excursion? Or do we have to make reservations right from VI Snuba Excursions? Is there another one that we can check? This is something my DH and I would love to do and any information would be greatly appreciated. We're scheduled to cruise on the Magic in Sept. and are really looking forward to it. Thanks in advance for anything you can tell me about snuba.

Dopey & Grumpy~ I am pretty sure Snuba is something you will have to do on your own. When we cruised last year, we went to Coral World on our own....The Snuba thing is right next door to that... so we know how to get there. If anyone else can add to this info , please do. We just heard of it from these boards, but I'm pretty sure people do it on their own.

SNUBA is not a Disney excursion. We booked the excursion easily online. If you do SNUBA at St. Thomas you also receive free admission to Coral World.

We choose St. Thomas rather than St. John. This was our first time on the Island and did not feel comfortable trying to go to St. John on our own. We've decided that next time we will "go-for-it" and try St. John.

Our excursion was for 10:00 AM hoping to have time afterward to do a little shopping in town. We left the ship at 9:00. The taxis are lined up next to the ship. As we walked up to the line, one of the drivers asked, "Where to?" We said Coral World and Coki Beach. He put us in his open air truck/taxi type vehicle. He then tryed to get more customers. We waited around 10 minutes while two more families boarded. We made one stop at an overlook area for a photo op. It was the picture I sent with our Christmas cards. We arrived at Coral World with 10 minutes to spare. When we were ready to return to the ship, we just walked towards the taxis between Coral World and Coki Beach. And again, one or the drivers immediately noticed us and asked where we wanted to go. We left immediately, without waiting for additonal passengers. The taxi fare is $7.00 per person each way .

Tammy our guide was great. She did a great job!!

Thanks a lot for the info. It looks like that's something we want to try. I appreciate the feed back on this. You learn so much from this board it's unbelievable. I love it and I check it often so I don't miss anything. Thanks again.
