Has anyone done shirts instead of autograph books?

Considering this over autograph books and then maybe doing a Disney quilt from the shirts a few years down the line. Has anyone done something similar? Would it be too difficult for characters to sign a shirt vs a book, or any other reason it'd be a bad idea?

Well,as long as the shirt isn't actually on the person at the time, they will sign a shirt. You will need a stiff piece of heavy cardboard, or something similar, inside the shirt- both as a firm surface for the character to write on and to prevent the ink from bleeding thru to the other side of the shirt. Oh, and a waterproof bag to carry it in.

We did shirts our second to last trip. I bought a CHEAP plastic embroidery hoop and put the shirt in that when the characters signed. I know the Pooh and Friends characters appreciated the hoop when they signed :).

I have never thought of making a quilt...hmm. I'll have to give that some thought!!

We did T-shirts once and used the embroidery hoops to hold the fabric taut. They worked out great. We have also used small plastic clipboards to clip a tote bag to and it worked out great. This way, the kids actually used the moments upon return.

Pillowcases are another item often autographed.

We are doing a t-shirt on our next trip. I bought a mini clip board and binder clips and I plan to get the space ready to sign and the use the clips to hold the shirt in place, moving things around for each character. The mini clip board will fit in our park bag with no problem.

Do you just use sharpies to have the characters write on the fabric, or is there a better writing item?

The last time I did shirts, I used regular sharpies, but if you intend on wearing and washing the shirts, it will fade after awhile. Sharpie does make fabric markers which I think would work better (but have not tried this yet). I found them in the Wal...super store. (Did not want to write the whole name of the store because I wasn't sure if it was allowed, but I'm sure you get it).

When DD was 12 we moved and all of her friends gave her a going away party and signed a shirt for her with messages, etc. We used a regular old black Sharpie. She's now 29 and that shirt looks just like it did when it was first signed. She still wears it. She wears it as much as one would wear an autographed shirt. It's not a lot but over the years it's been washed plenty. I won't hesitate to use Sharpie's myself.
