Has Anyone Done a Same Day Car Rental

We have some friends who are going to be flying in Friday morning 4/30 for the 5/1 Eastern. We are spending the first night at the new Ron Jon Resort, and need to find them a way to get there. I know that we could use the towncar serivce, but I thought that I read somewhere on this board that people do a same day car rental to Cocoa Beach.

If you have done this please help, my friend said that the Avis site won't let him book this online so all suggestions would be appreciated.

We did the one day rental with Avis. I think that since you get booked in full days we just put in when our flight was coming in (say 10 am in the morning) and put a return of less than 24 hours ( say 9 am the next day). In reality we returned it that night and then took the shuttle in the morning. That was back in the days when Avis was at the Raddisson. Not sure if things changed now that they are in a separate location.

In December we intend to rent a car, drive to Vero and then drop it off near the port.

We usually use Hertz. Pick up the car when we arrive at MCO (the day before our cruise) and keep it until the next morning, (to run out & get breakfast). We return it to Hertz Cocoa Beach location & they shuttle us to the ship.

I would assume most of the car rental companies would offer pretty much the same service.

I've also heard that there isn't much within walking distance to some of the hotels @ Cocoa (not sure about the Ron Jon), so unless you plan on staying just there, it would be nice to have a rental available.

We have rented from both Avis and Budget with the one way rentals. If you go to Dave's site www.dcltribute.com in the rental car section it has the codes you need to do a one way rental. They can be done online. It is easy and much less expensive than Disney transfers.

We rented from Budget for this weekend! We pick up our 7 passenger minivan (automatic w/air)at MCO of Friday and drop it off on Sat. am after our husbands drop us off at the dock. We are paying $48.00 (plus tax) with unlimited mileage. Pretty good deal I think. We are staying at the Comfort Inn & Suites. Decided we'd rather be nearer to the beach than the port.

For the return trip, we are going to purchase Disney transfers once we are on the ship.

why wouldn't you do the same one-way rental for the return trip? This is what I am planning to do. $50 per rental is much cheaper than the 1-way disney transfer for 5-6 people.

We were trying to book a one day hire for when we returned from the cruise to get back to MCO later that evening.

We first tried Avis who we found were quite expensive, infact it was the same price as our two day rental with them.

We decided to try Budget and found them around half the price of Avis.

This was of course booking from the UK, so don't know if booking in the US will be different.

We are staying at RonJon's. I booked Avis for a full size car for 7 hours. The cost is 45.90 with all taxes etc it comes to 51.27. When I tried Budget it was exactly the same. I also booked for the same trip a one day, 16 hour rental and am paying 68.38 with taxes etc. 85.22. For some reason Budget is the same for me. We have done the towncar, car rental and transfers. We prefer to rent. I have always rented online from Avis even for less than a day.

If you are going to do a one-way rental, check the one-way links on Hotwire.com. They automatically put in a discount code, and it's a really good one. We usually use Happy Limo, but last cruise we did a rental as research for my planning guide, since it's one thing we had never experienced. I was shocked at the high rates, but when I checked Budget through Hotwire, we got an awesome deal. Their service was very good, too, and they upgraded us from a compact to a Ford Taurus.
