We got back last week. I had so many compliments about my band. My glow in the dark paint on the sides were also so cool at night and the dark rides.
Earlier in the thread someone said if you did the band up so it was round rather than flat when they did the top coat, that it didn't crack. I think some other posts used base coat rather than top coat.Loving this thread! It's going to take me a while to get through the whole thing, but there are some really awesome bands!
I have to show mine off from last year..I'm a huge dog lover, so I just had to do Disney dogs.

These were hand painted with acrylic paint, and then sealed with nail polish top coat. Unfortunately, once the top coat dried and I put the band on, it cracked like crazyFor anyone that has painted theirs with acrylic, what did you use to seal? I have a spray sealant that I use for paintings on canvas that I was thinking of trying, but I'd love to hear what's worked and what hasn't! I'm hoping to do either a Tangled, Wreck It Ralph, or Kingdom Hearts themed band this year.
I use really tiny paintbrushes to do the details and outlines. Not sure where you are, but I get mine from Michael's..they are Royal & Langnickel Zen brand (sizes 3/0 and 10/0), and they were perfect for this project! Oh, and a steady hand definitely helpedwhippetdog- Those are AMAZING! How did you paint them so detailed and get the outlines so good? They look as good as decals!
As for the sealant, I used Krylon Crystal Clear acrylic coating spray. DH's held up great but DS and I were a little harder on ours apparently rubbing them on lots of things so they rubbed off a bit. Mine only cracked near the holes because of the amount of bending I did on them after painting. When I did other DS's and his gf's and sealed with polish they ended up cracking and coming off quite a bit. I did find that you can't use Sharpie with the sealant because it bleeds.
Thank you for the advice, that makes sense..I'm going to try that with the next band. And yes! I do have a Whippet! Her name is Princess Leia and she just turned 14 this year. Whippets are the best!!! I would love to have 5 of them, that must be so much funEarlier in the thread someone said if you did the band up so it was round rather than flat when they did the top coat, that it didn't crack. These are stunning!!
By your member name I assume you have whippets? We have 5 whippets ourselves.

Have fun! I'm trying to convince DH that I should decorate his too...Just got email that my MagicBands have been shipped! I've got all my craft supplies at the ready. Can't wait!!! WOOT!
I have three out of four of my bands done. The first is rather simple with a clear base coat then red sparkle nail polish over a red band and then some sticker details and clear base coat on top.

I really wanted glow in the dark but I just wasn't real happy last year with all of the glow paints and polishes I tried. I got the plain glow skins from magicyourband and put them on a grey band with a clear base coat and then a coat of white nail polish. I then applied my stickers and rhinestones and finally a clear base coat. These glow really bright, look much nicer in person as my camera really was not happy focusing in the dark. You can see a lot of detail of the stickers when it's glowing. This years took a fraction of the time to do as I did all of my testing last year and knew what worked and what didn't.

The designs on this thread are really wonderful. Here is my first DIY Magic Band. I used nail polish, hot glued crystals and a spray acrylic top coat. It held up very well on my last trip. As you can see, I covered the RFID Mickey with a vintage piece of jewelry. It did take an extra second or two for some scanners to register my band. Only one scanner the entire trip couldn't register my band at all. That was at Toy Story Midway Mania, probably because those scanners are somewhat worn out.

Thank you! I'm having a tough time on my second one. I seemed to have used my best ideas on the first. That is GORGEOUS!
