Has anyone converted park hopper tix to APs?

I just read that you can convert (in my case) 5 day passes to APs anytime before the period ends. Is this true?

We are heading down next week, and going back again in June, so it makes sense to buy APs. However, this is sort of a last minute trip and there's not enough time to get them before we go, so I thought I'd pick up passes at AAA, and convert them in them in the park, rather than standing in long lines to buy them.

This just occured to me - duh! - are APs available through AAA or Disney Stores?

Yes you can get APs at the Disney Store--you get a voucher that gets you through the gates and you get the actual AP at one of the processing centers--there's one in each park.

You definitely can trade in park hoppers for APs. You might still want to think about doing that if the current park hoppers offered in your area have any perks with them that you think would be beneficial. OTOH APs will get you dining discounts.

I've traded in park hoppers for APs twice so far. I was intending to do it again this time, but opted instead to just buy the APs before the price went up.
