Has anyone choreographed their first dance?

We didn't use a video but we did take 2 dance lessons. Even though it was only two it made a world of difference. Our instructor told us that he was going to teach us a few moves and the right time to use them. He said when you choreograph something then there is a lot of pressure to do the right thing at the right time where if you just have a few turns and things in mind and let the man lead as to when to do them it wouldn't be so bad. He taught us the box step and posture etc.

We started out swaying so that no one would know that we 'knew' how to dance and then on a certain cue we locked arms and started dancing. When the music would swell in the chorus we would do our turns and then at the end we had a fancy dip worked out. We had to practise on our own (we only started like 2 weeks before the wedding) and we messed it up a ton during practise but we got it right on the day of the wedding.

I really wanted to do this but we never got the chance to take some lessons or watch a video. We talked about doing it but time just got away from us. I think if you can do any type of lesson or anything it would add to the day.

Ahh a dance question, I love it, I'm a dance teahcer too so I can actually help with this one! I would always say take a class if there is one available because you will learn more by doing then watching. BUT, if you cant take a class then try the video and keep the remote handy... pause it after each step... practice the step and the once you have the gist of it hit play again. What kind of dance are you planning? Waltz's are VERY easy to learn, just keep counting 1,2,3 over and over that way if you get lost you can pick it back up in a few counts. Foxtrots are a little peppier, so try that after a waltz, and swing if probably the most challenging. That being said, try to only do a little each night if it is very challeging for you and keep practicing. If you have any other ?'s let me know :)

We had planned to do waltz to the sleeping beauty waltz, the version from the Disney film that the choir sings; it's my favorite song and favorite Disney princess, but alas we procrastinated too much and never took lessons :guilty:

So now we'll have to dance to something else. Sniffle, sniffle.

Take the classes; you have plenty of time to get comfy with the moves! And then do a little refresher class shortly before the wedding :thumbsup2

We had been taking swing lessons for 6 or 8 months when we got engaged - and then had no time to continue them cuz of wedding planning. Like Skylarr, we wanted to surprise everyone with our moves, so we started out doing the "High School Sway" until our song picked up, and then busted out a string of the easier swing moves we knew we could do without, you know, sending me spinning into the buffet.... :rotfl:
