Just wondering if anyone else out there cancelled or rescheduled their trip to Disney due to Hurricane IKE? My family and I were scheduled to arrive at WDW this Sunday, but decided to reschedule with that big ole hurricane headed that way. We're so disappointed but rescheduled for next month and are hoping for better weather.

Aww, sorry you had to cancel, but it is great you were able to reschedule for so soon. Hopefully you will have great time and the weather will cooperate. :)

Not yet.I am hoping we don't have to.We took advantage of Free Dining and our son turns 3 ten days after we return,so no charge for tickets yet.

Nope, we're going!

My DH is an aviation consultant and a meterologist by training, so he'd LOVE to meet Ike - no kidding! :sad2:

If anyone is flying in, we're going - and since we fly in Monday morning, that doesn't seem to be a problem. Our ponchos are in the pile to be packed, I've added a couple of travel games in case we need to stay in the room for a while and yesterday I bought myself a pair of Tevas to wade through puddles. :umbrella:

We are ready for anything! :thumbsup2

It also helps that we have friends who work for the Mouse, so we are not alone down there if anything happens. :grouphug:

OP, did you have the travel insurance? Just wondering if you had to have it to reschedule so close to your travel date.:surfweb: Thanks

I'm not cancelling, but I must admit I was wondering how I was going to unload the car in at cat 4 hurricane this Wednesday (back when the track was making a beeline for Orlando). It keeps looking a little better for Orlando all the time and I hope it stays that way (although I really wish it would have just turned around and stayed in the Atlantic - once it's in the Gulf, someone is really going to get it). Keeping my fingers crossed!

No, we did not have travel insurance and there was no penalty to reschedule the dates. The staff members that I spoke to could not have been nicer or more sympathetic. Keep in mind that we just went through Hurricane Gustav earlier this week and now Hurricane Ike looked like it was going straight for FL. It was too much of a risk for us to take with three small children. I wish everyone the best who is there and who is going during the next week...we're looking forward to our trip mid October....anyone going in Oct????

Disney and the airlines are being very helpful for those that need to change plans because of the hurricanes. They are allowing you to reschedule without penalty.

I will be there in Oct, but the end of the month not the middle. I am going with my DIS friends for a Girls Only trip! It is our 2nd annual!

I have to say...DW during a hurrican is great....When DH and I lived on Bradenton Beach, we would get evacuated from the island and always go to DW. Reason: No one is there....Everyone cancels their plans so really don't have to wait in lines for rides or ressies or anything. It rains a bit but it always ended up being a nice little getaway for us. Also for us the wind never got that bad that far inland so it was just like a big rain storm.

Lovetoscrap,

A girls trip to Disney sounds so fun!! I have never known the staff of Disney to be anything but wonderful, but I mean they were just so fabulous and trust me, I was so upset when I called them...we've just been looking forward to this trip for so long. I asked when I was rescheduling if they were getting a lot of cancellations and she said that they had received "numerous" cancellations and reschedules due to the hurricanes. Have fun on your girls trip!

No way! Not giving up my free dining!!

I'm not really worried about a storm, to be honest. Worst case scenario is a missed park day. Average effects would be a few rainy days. Unless a major storm is taking direct aim on central FL (and Ike is not) then I see no reason to cancel.

.

Having been directly affected by Hurricane Katrina three years ago, it totally changed my opinion and attitude toward hurricanes. I take them all very seriously now. It'll do that when you see firsthand the devastation that they cause. I have no desire whatsoever to be around one, no matter what category they are. And when I see a Cat 4 hurricane that just a few days ago was headed straight for FL, I'm not taking any chances with my family. And now, we just get to look forward to seeing Mickey for a few weeks longer. How do you get those countdowns added to sites? I love those!!

LegoMom3,

I see that you're staying at Port Orleans Riverside..we'd have been there at the same time! We're going to stay there when we go next month. Have you ever stayed there before? I'd love to hear from you when you return and let me know how it is...have a wonderful trip!!

Ike is supposed to hit the Gulf Coast on Saturday, so I am pretty confident we will be out of danger:worship: , with that said, I can handle rain...if we get that much.......put my hair in a pony tail, put on my pocho with rain shoes and a towel in the backpack and slowly tour the parks and eat on DDXDP.......is there or are there any more hurricaines brewing?:surfweb: :scared1: I think, if one doesn't brew in a few days, we should be fine for our departure Sept 17th......how long does it usually take for a hurricaine to affect us in the USA (Gulf Coast)? The extended forcast is calling for isolated/scattered rain.............I can handle that and to be honest, with the heat, I sometimes welcome a little rain!:rolleyes1 pirate:

I hear you! My oldest turns 10 on 9/20. Our trip is scheduled fro 9/13-9/20. We couldn't afford a re-schedule between the free dining and the 9yo turning 10. Thankfully, it is looking much better.

Ike is far from orlando. I'm in Miami and all we're getting is 20 mph winds and some light ran. This is coming from the outer bands. Josephine is on the way though...
